164: Why Are My Periods So Painful? The Real Root Cause | Lizzie Ens

Why are my periods so painful? For most women, the answer is a root cause no one looked for, like dehydration, high estrogen, inflammation from sugar and seed oils, or missing vitamins and minerals. If you have been bent over in pain, stuck in bed for a day, bleeding for weeks, or not getting a period at all, you have probably been told this is just normal. Here's the thing. Common does not mean normal. And birth control can quiet heavy, painful, or irregular periods without ever fixing what is driving them.

In this solo episode of The Lizzie Ens Show, Lizzie Ens, functional nutrition coach, business owner, author of Amish Renegade, and speaker, shares the period pain she lived with as an Amish teenager and the aloe vera juice her mom found to help. You'll hear how dehydration, alcohol, and too much coffee can show up as tender breasts and harder periods, why Lizzie starts clients on a quarter teaspoon of good salt in water every morning plus electrolytes and magnesium, and how three of her clients regulated a missing period and nonstop periods lasting two and four months without birth control. Your period is information from your body. It is time to listen.

In this episode, you'll learn:

  • Why are my periods so painful is a question with real answers, and Lizzie shares why heavy, bedridden, or nonstop periods are common but never something you have to accept as normal.
  • Why birth control for periods can level out symptoms for some women but masks the root cause, so the same issue is often still there, or worse, once you stop.
  • How dehydration slows your whole system down during your period, and why Lizzie has clients drink a quarter teaspoon of good salt in water first thing every morning.
  • Why filtered water can leave you short on minerals, how electrolytes help you hydrate better, and why a caffeinated drink should never count toward your daily water.
  • How tender breasts before your period can be a high estrogen symptom, and how cutting back on alcohol and supporting her liver changed it for Lizzie.
  • How three of Lizzie's clients regulated a missing period and nonstop periods of two and four months through testing, nutrition, vitamins, minerals, and detox, with no birth control.
  • Why PMDD and endometriosis can make painful periods even harder, plus the daily basics that help: fewer processed foods, less sugar and seed oil, more protein, magnesium, and hydration.
