Sunday Set Up Ep. 62: Letting Go of Who We Think We Have to Be

Happy Sunday! Welcome to Heal Squad’s The Sunday Set Up. Life lessons to help you start the week. Sometimes the habits and behaviors we struggle with most are the very things we once used to protect ourselves. This week, we talk seven lessons from Dr. Gabor Maté on understanding the roots of chronic stress, emotional pain and how our childhood experiences can shape who we become. We talk replacing self-judgment with curiosity, why two people can grow up in the same home and have very different experiences, and how the need to be accepted can cause us to lose touch with who we really are. We discuss people-pleasing, the difficulty of saying no, and what happens when we begin putting our own needs first after a lifetime of meeting everyone else's expectations. We talk the connection between our emotions and physical health, and why saying yes to rest, joy and creativity can be just as important as setting boundaries. The takeaway: awareness is the first step, but change doesn't have to happen overnight. We talk admitting when we're struggling, asking for help, and getting comfortable with being uncomfortable instead of avoiding difficult situations. As we move into the holiday season, it's a good time to think about what we really want, rather than simply doing what's expected of us. We're all learning, and none of us will ever get it perfectly right. Sometimes moving forward means letting go of what no longer serves us and making more room for the things that bring us joy. We'll Talk Shawtly!
