195 | PUFAS Explained with Brandy Searcy

Join Angela and guest Brandy Searcy in this episode: PUFAS Explained.

In today's episode, Angela and Brandy Searcy are talking about cooking oils and oils used for self-massage (Abhyanga) in the context of essential fatty acids. With so much recent controversy around omega-6 and why you should avoid them in your diet, Brandy shares the truth about these fatty acids. Spoiler alert: you need both of them for your health.

Learn more about:
• why omega-3 and omega-6 are both necessary for your health
• which botanical and vegetable oils are rich in each of these & how to use these oils in your diet
• what factors into an oil's shelf life
• what ratio of omega-3 to omega-6 to target in your diet

Brandy Searcy's a pharmaceutical formulation development scientist who truly discovered Ayurveda in 2020 when she decided to cure Hashimoto's thyroiditis. Having been diagnosed with this autoimmune thyroid condition in 2018, she wasn't happy with living with Western medicine's approach to this condition and picked up Dr. Marianne Teitelbaum's book "Healing the thyroid with Ayurveda."

Intrigued by many of the connections Dr. Teitelbaum made in this book, specifically the way of looking at your body holistically rather than individual wheels and cogs to be cut and chopped and reassembled whenever one part malfunctioned, Brandy decided to learn more about Ayurveda.

After implementing some of the dinacharya recommendations and her diet (specifically eliminating raw and cold foods), she began to noticing such profound differences in the way she felt she fell head over heels for Ayurveda enrolling in an AHC program while taking courses offered by Dr. Vasant Lad and incorporating Ayurvedic principles into the skincare offered at Rain Organica.

Brandy provides a unique perspective of Ayurveda through the lens of a scientist
