Natalia Speaks: “The Curious Case of Michael’s Sideburns” | Serial Streamers TV Club

In this episode of Serial Streamers, Jami recaps the Max docuseries Natalia Speaks, which is part two of the Natalia Grace story. In this recap, Jami accuses Michael Barnett of being in a full blown mid-life crisis as evidenced by his car and interesting sideburns. She also reveals her feelings about Natalia’s new parents, Antwon and Cynthia Mans, and how they may not have Natalia’s best interest in mind. This episode is chalk full of snarky commentary, hot takes and a Cliffs Notes version of Season 1 and Season 2 of the Natalia Grace story. If you hate Michael and Kristine Barnett as much as Jami does, welcome ….you’ve found your community. Follow Jami on Instagram & TikTok @JamiOnAir and join the Serial Streamers true crime TV club! Vincent Chin: “Modern Day Lynching” | MURDERISH Ep. 104

Vincent Chin: “Modern Day Lynching” | MURDERISH Ep. 104

Since the 1880s, immigrants from all over the globe have arrived in the United States hoping to attain a better quality of life, the American Dream. Like so many immigrants before them, Lily and Ben Chin wanted their son Vincent to have more opportunities than he may have had in their native China. In the 1970s and 1980s, however, tensions were high between Japanese and American automobile manufacturers, and that discord extended beyond the auto manufacturing plants. It was at this time that 27-year-old Vincent Chin found himself in peril on the streets of Motor City. His story reminds us why this landmark case is still relevant more than 40 years later. Dr. Teresa Sievers: “Lying in Wait” | MURDERISH Ep. 103

Dr. Teresa Sievers: “Lying in Wait” | MURDERISH Ep. 103

When an alternative medicine doctor was found bludgeoned to death in her Bonita Springs, Florida home in the summer of 2015, friends and neighbors worried a burglar was on the loose, looking for his next random victim. Detectives with the Lee County Sheriff’s Office told the public that Dr. Teresa Sievers had been bashed in the back of the head after returning home early from a trip with her husband and two daughters. An online sleuth group wondered if Dr. Sievers’s death was connected to that of several other alternative medicine doctors throughout the country who had also died under mysterious circumstances in recent months. The slain doctor’s husband, Mark, had an airtight alibi. Who killed Dr. Sievers and why? The disturbing details of her murder would be revealed in time, and the answers rocked the community. Hae Min Lee: Part 2 | MURDERISH Ep. 101

Hae Min Lee: Part 2 | MURDERISH Ep. 101

In Part 1 of this case, we left off with the prosecution concluding their case at Adnan’s second trial. The State called numerous witnesses to testify. One of the most notable was Abe Warnowitz, an AT&T Engineer who testified regarding cell phone calls made from and received on Adnan’s cell phone, which was in Jay’s possession on the day Hae went missing. The jury also heard from the State’s star witness, Jay Wilds, who testified that Adnan told him he killed Hae and convinced him to help bury her body. Though some of the calls Jay testified about seemed to show up in the right place on Adnan’s cell phone call log, some of his sworn statements were contradicted by other witnesses' testimony as well as Jay’s own statements to law enforcement. As the defense began presenting their case at trial, everyone likely believed that this case was nearing its end. The trial would come to an end soon, but this case was far from over. In time, the world would come to know Hae Min Lee and Adnan Syed’s names as the case was highlighted on a wildly successful podcast, called Serial. After Serial was released, new information came to light that called into question numerous aspects of the case, from potential missteps or misconduct in the investigation, to possible mistakes and wrongdoing on behalf of the defense and prosecution. Today, Hae Min Lee’s murder case is arguably one of most well-known and debated cases in modern history. Check us out: Visit Murderish.com for more info about the show and Creator/Host, Jami. Hae Min Lee: Part 1 | MURDERISH Ep. 100

Hae Min Lee: Part 1 | MURDERISH Ep. 100

In January of 1999, an 18 year high school student mysteriously vanished after school. Four weeks later, her body was found in a shallow grave in a nearby wooded park. An arrest was made and the suspect was eventually convicted of her murder. When it happened, this tragic story barely made the local papers, let alone the national news. 14 years later, after becoming the subject of the most downloaded podcast on record, the case became an international phenomenon and one of the most talked about in modern history. It turned millions of people into armchair lawyers and detectives overnight, igniting the rise of the true crime genre as we know it today. Years after the trial, new evidence was uncovered calling into question the validity of the conviction. Through it all, the convicted party has always maintained his innocence. The victim’s family has likewise maintained that the right person was convicted and punished for killing their daughter. For many people, though, questions remain: Has the killer been brought to justice, or was someone wrongfully convicted? Is there another person law enforcement should have investigated further? Did the convicted killer’s accomplice even have anything to do with the crime? Did legal or law enforcement misconduct play a role in the case, or is everyone wasting their time fighting for justice when it has already been served? These are the questions, among many others, that keep this case top of mind for millions of people to this day. Check us out: Visit Murderish.com for more info about the show and Creator/Host, Jami. Who would you share the money with if it happened to you? Your family, a stranger in need …your best friend? It’s a happy thought, but sometimes the reality can be much darker because money also motivates some people to do terrible things. In this case, curiosity led to the opening of a mysterious box. Gail Katz Bierenbaum: “Warning Letter” | MURDERISH Ep. 098

Relationships oftentimes seem fine, even loving, when viewing them from the outside. It’s difficult to know what may be going on behind closed doors. For one woman, her relationship began this way, with mostly everyone thinking she’d found a man whose future value would allow them to lead a very charmed life. Not long after they began dating, cracks in the relationship began to surface. Soon, people close to the couple observed disturbing behavior that made them very uncomfortable. When the woman went missing, some people quickly pointed the finger at her husband. Family members and investigators would be in for a very long journey to find out what happened, and they would be utterly flabbergasted more than once by discoveries made during the investigation into her disappearance.
