175. Poetry and Dance as Ritual and Ceremony with Aepril Schaile

Aepril Schaile, MFA is a performance artist/priestess/poet with a dance practice rooted in the ancient and ever-evolving art of Bellydance. She has taught and performed at curated events in Paris, London, Rome, New York, and throughout Europe and the United States.

Aepril shamanistically becomes Trickster, Warrior, Ghost, Storm, Grieving Mother, Killer, Graal, Seductress. She draws deeply from her immersement in the natural world, occult art/science, witchcraft, yoga and archetypal psychology, creating visceral and aetheral ritual theatre. Each performance is intended to create and convey a world.

"Poetry is a practice of deep inquiry. Poems reveal themselves to me much like an oracle; yet, each poem also becomes a spell. ​Poems are a way for me to express kinesthetic, emotional body experience in a sculpture of words. They are an internal form of Performance Art. They are themselves music. Some say poetry is dead; it is not. It is homeopathic medicine for a time in which we move too fast, as it asks us to slow down and look again, and again. To imagine for ourselves. To be present. And to feel."
