Peter Bol, with the nation behind him, came 4th place in the Men’s 800m after a brave performance where he led from the front for most of the race. Men’s 1500m Oli Hoare ran 3:36.09 and Stewy McSweyn 3:36.39 to progress in their first-round heats, while Jye Edwards avoided a collision in a slower paced heat to finish with a 3:42.62. Both Stewy and Oli advanced into the final, where Stewy McSweyn took the lead and gave himself every chance until the final lap where he was caught and passed by the field, finishing seventh overall while Oli finished eleventh.

On her birthday, Gen Gregson in the 3000m Steeplechase Final had an unfortunate fall at the final water barrier where she ruptured her achilles and was unable to finish the race. Jessica Hull set a new National Record of 3:58.81 in the Women’s 1500m to advance into the Final, while the previous record holder Linden Hall placed third in her heat to also advance. In the final Linden overcame being boxed in early to finish 6th with a PB of 3:59.01, with Jess placing 11th in a deep field. Sifan Hassan unleashed a strong kick in Women’s 10000m Final over the top of Bahrain’s Kalkidan Gezahegne and world record holder in the event to not only win the final but also to complete a rare treble in to medal in the 1500m and 5000m as well. Women’s 10000m Final Result

Women’s marathon Sinead Diver ran strongly to place 10th with a time of 2:31:14 in humid conditions. Ellie Pashley 2:33:39 23rd ran along with Lisa Weightman 2:34:19 26th. Peres Chepchirchir of Kenya won the race over teammate Brigid Kosgei with previous IRP guest Molly Seidel of the USA taking the bronze medal. In the men’s Marathon Liam Adams was our top runner, bettering his result from Rio coming 24th place 2:15:51. Brett Robinson had a hard race in humid conditions to run a time of 2:24:04 for 66th place, while Jack Rayner withdrew in the early stages citing a femoral stress fracture affecting his training. Eliud Kipchoge dominated from 30km onwards to better his time from Rio to take back-to-back gold medals in 2:08:38, while Abdi Nageye of the Netherlands and Bashir Abdi of Belgium rounded out the minor placings. Brady cuts down in some 200s and gets in tune with his easy pace.   It was the return of a very different London Marathon 2020, where over 19 2.2km laps around St James Park; Brigid Kosgei took out the women’s in cold, humid and torrid conditions taking honours in 2:18:58, with the run of the day going to Sara Hall in second in 2:22:01 in a sprint finish. Sinead Diver was the first Australian home in 2:27:07 for 8th place, with Ellie Pashley coming 12th 2:31:31 to mark a successful recovery from injury. Eluid Kipchoge in what was the upset of the race finished 8th in 2:06:49. The boys close with a little preview of some of the track races coming in Europe including Joshua Cheptegei’s 10K WR attempt and how Stewy McSweyn will close the season.   Tina Muir, Great Britain representative and host of the popular Running For Real podcast joins Sophie Fitt to talk about growing up in England, getting into running and having a coach look after her long term before recounting how she got into the US college system through a gap year and running for Ferris State University in Michigan and the jump in intensity of the NCAA system coming from the UK club system. Tina shares the pressures that came with that environment and the missive to lose weight then having a better coaching experience in her second year. Tina then goes into how she pursued her life-long goal of representing Great Britain, driving force and the opportunity through a last-minute call up to the 2016 European Athletics Championship Half Marathon. After running her marathon PB of 2:36 at the 2016 California International Marathon, Tina’s plans for 2017 changed dramatically in the aftermath from that marathon and after meeting her niece while training high volume, the ongoing fight with the voice in her head and eventually the event that triggered her decision to step away from the sport. She openly shares her struggles with amenorrhea and dealing with constant symptoms throughout her life and finding her way back to fertility while Sophie provides insight and context to the condition.
