Living More Authentically & Controlling How We Interpret Our Lives | 2 - Jordan Grumet Values & Habits Q&A

When we think of deathbed regrets, we generally envision ourselves as some shriveled up old person in a hospital bed with some regrets, and in truth, I don’t think we care. That’s that person's problem and doesn’t relate to my life right now and today I want to achieve great things and have great things and enjoy my life. And we miss two profound truths that matter most. One is, you could have an accident or get a diagnosis tomorrow that make the regret right here and now. And two, and more relevant, the death bed regrets are more focused on realizing the depth and fulfillment and happiness that we missed. That we ARE missing, right now. ⁣ ⁣ I’m back for round two with Jordan Grumet, talking through his Values & Habits.. Jordan was an internal medicine physician who left clinical practice to devote himself to hospice care and deep conversations about life. He covers this in his book, Taking Stock: A Hospice Doctor's Advice on Financial Independence, Building Wealth, and Living a Regret-Free Life, which was our topic in our first show together. It was in the category of the mind and mental health where Jordan ruminated on how he's altered by his end of life patients and realizing how influenced their lives were, not by true, objective realities, but by the stories they wrote around those. ⁣ ⁣ This is personal intent to have control over how he interprets his life. And also how so often his patients have significant regret that they didn't live lives more authentically. They lived for the expectations of others and cultural pressures. As for other categories, he shares how seeing people literally die right before him and sensing something significant changed right there in the room, has impacted his spiritual perspective. How many of his patients regret not taking care of themselves better has influenced his own health and wellness pursuits. How he sees money as a tool and how it hurts people when they see money as a goal in and of itself. And as of late he's thinking about taking up an old hobby of collecting baseball cards because he realizes the nostalgic feeling he has around them and is giving it more value to his own inspiration.⁣ ⁣ The Self-Help(ful) podcast is brought to you by Ziglar, your premier source for equipping coaches to help leaders and top performers excel professionally and personally.
