I'm worried about doing this. It's a discussion that's become hugely charged from both sides. Some people calling for the Dalai Lama to be prosecuted for his actions, whilst others saying how dare you accuse someone who's devoted their life to kindness of such crimes. After seeing how things have played out since the video clip of him asking the boy to suck his tongue went hugely viral all over the internet, I wanted to see if I could present both sides of the discussion so that we could talk about it together. Because if we can't talk about these things then how are we going to get anywhere with any of it. This is a job that no one wants but thankfully there are people out there that are doing it. Imagine waking up every morning knowing that your day is going to be filled with visiting offenders to ensure they are not re-offending.Beth Hoel spent 25-years working with prisoners who had served their sentence and were now released back into the community. Obviously, our answer to this is YES. But this lawyer comes onto national TV to explain why it's not possible. There are 100,000 convicted sex offenders currently on the register (walking our streets), and to put them all in prison for life would come at an astronomical cost that no one is prepared to pay for. Alongside the fact that our prison capacity is 85,000 and it’s already full with other criminals.
