Baked to Perfection - Provost Turina Bakken's Leadership Journey at Madison College

Retirement is in sight for Provost Turina Bakken as she reflects on her 25 years of service at Madison College. Join us for this episode of the CETL PIE Podcast as we sit down with this seasoned academic leader to hear about her journey from faculty member to Provost and the impact she's made along the way. Turina's career has been nothing short of "baked to perfection." As she prepares to step down from her role, listen in to learn what she's proudest of and what advice she has for those who will follow in her footsteps.

Turina R. Bakken, Ph.D., serves as Provost and Executive Vice President of Academic Affairs at Madison College. She is the chief architect of strategy and innovation for the academic enterprise inclusive of over 140 areas of study and nearly 1,300 faculty. In her 25 years at the college, Turina has served as Vice Provost, Associate Vice President, Dean, Associate Dean, program director and faculty member. She was awarded the Distinguished Teacher of the Year award in 2006 and received the College’s Outstanding Employee in 2010. In 2016, she received the Dr. Idahlynne Karre Exemplary Leadership Award from the national Chair Academy.

Her professional experience includes management positions in both the private and public sector in the field of marketing, product development, and sports broadcasting. In addition to past leadership roles and Board service, Turina currently holds Board positions on the Madison Area Sports Commission, Destination Greater Madison, Madison College Foundation and is the past President of the Instructional Services Administrators for the state of Wisconsin. She has served on the graduate faculty at UW-Whitewater, Lakeland University and the UW-Madison School of Executive Education.

Turina holds a Ph.D. in Educational Leadership and Policy Administration (ELPA) from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. In addition, she holds a Master of Science in Marketing and Organizational Theory, a BBA in Marketing with a Specialization in International Business, a BA in French Area Studies, and a certificate from the Faculte des Lettres in Aix en Provence, France. She also played international soccer for two seasons in Southern France.

Turina is an avid sports fan and loves all things Wisconsin Badgers and Madison College Wolfpack.
