Episode #66 - 'Avatar: The Last Airbender' 1x01, 1x02 - Everything Changed

ReWatchable is back for the first Avatar: The Last Airbender episode recapping season 1, episode 1, "The Boy in the Iceberg," and episode 2, "The Avatar Returns."

Superfans: Michal, Caitlin, and Natalie. Newbie: Brittany

Avatar: The Last Airbender season 1, episode 1, "The Boy in the Iceberg"

-Brittany was a little lost. Especially during the intro. Wow, that was a lot of information, right off the bat!
-A:TLA is drawn in a style similar to anime, but is a Western cartoon. We're glad their mouths match up to the dialogue in this show!
-Caitlin tells us all about some of the differences between Western and Eastern animation.
-Watching the show again, even the superfans were surprised at how quickly the show moves in the beginning.
-It's definitely a lot easier to appreciate this show's intro scene retrospectively.
-We're able to understand Sokka and Katara's relationship in the first moments that we see them.
-How odd that we don't know that Aang is the Avatar in the first episode!
-The character growth we're going to see in this show, especially for Sokka and Katara, is going to be tremendous.
-Brittany thought that everyone on the show was going to be able to bend!
-Yeah, let's just get this out of the way. This show really isn't strictly a kids show.
-No one's age is revealed in the show, so Brittany gives her best guesses (and is pretty close).
-Sokka's "sexist" comment was pretty intense for the first drama scene of the show.
-Katara tends to see things through rose-tinted glasses, especially about her discovery of Aang.
-How cute was Aang as he asked to penguin sledding right as he woke up!
-Brittany still doesn't know what the Avatar really is.
-"Zuko" will always be followed by "no comment."
-And amongst the love of the Firebender from the superfans, the newbie "just wants to slap him."
-But then we all agree that it's okay to hate on Zuko this early on in the game.
-Newbie Brittany thought that Zuko wore facepaint every day. Instead of having a burn scar.
-Gran gran is understandably protective of the last South Pole Waterbender.
-Okay, we admit it. Katara does say the word "hope" a lot.
-Bending isn't meant to be a magical thing, rather more in line with nature.
-Aang becomes a lot of Katara's world, very quickly. Is this because of her missing out on being around any other benders?
-We almost sort ourselves into our respective bending types. But then we don't. No comment!
-The animal hybrids of this world are the best! How cute were those penguins?
-Aang seems to snap into the frozen world that he's in without any hesitation.
-Iroh gave us a really neat description of how bending happens this early on in the show.

Avatar: The Last Airbender season 1, episode 2, "The Avatar Returns"

-The first epic battle between Zuko and Aang showed off some great choreography.
-Firebenders could be compared to the Slytherines of the A:TLA universe.
-Do we even have time to think of the ships this early on in the show?
-Yeah, the A:TLA fandom can get pretty in depth when it comes to ships.
-Watching this show right after a show like Spongebob will really not set you up properly for this show.
-The animated characters in this show is as real to Natalie as real people characters, due to their awesome complexity.
-Sokka goes for the eye of the tiger, armed only with a spear and his trusty boomerang. Also, his moment against Zuko gives him a good reprieve from his less-than-favorable previous presentation.
-Arrogance is a common flaw in many characters in A:TLA.
-Brittany pretty much hits the head on the nail about what the Avatar state is.
-Was it okay that Aang wanted to have so many fun adventures, when such an important mission was already at hand?
-What are the events we're looking forward to seeing, in concept, for the remainder of this epic journey?
-Aang definitely isn't processing the consequences of his current situation quite yet.
-What number re-watch are the superfans on for A:TLA?
-This is the first show that hasn't been cancelled that ReWatchable is covering.

Episode #292: ‘Sense8’ 2×10 — Hip Hop Aladdin

The ReWatchable hosts are back with their discussion of Sense8 season 2, episode 10, “If All the World's a Stage, Identity Is Nothing But a Costume.” Superfans: Danielle and Karen Newbies: Caitlin and Brittany Fun Facts: Karen is BACK. And we're happy? Karen has been away for 10 weeks and gives us a quick catch up. SHE HAS ONE GREY HAIR. What even. Go away, Karen. Parents will take care of you after you move out is Brittany's fun fact as she got knives and peanut butter crackers. We lost Caitlin, we talk about TVs, ruin Karen's update, and Danielle has a candle that smells like bread! Sense8 season 2, episode 10, “If All the World's a Stage, Identity Is Nothing But a Costume”: - Synopsis - Is there too much uncertainty in Kala's storyline at this point? - Karen sticks up for Kala while Brittany joins Caitlin in the "over the pity party club" - But honestly, there is not much on screen for them to talk about... - Drugged up Will now doesn't have a purpose, but it's still real - There's not a lot of mourning, but a fresh shave can save everything? - Not a lot of Sun this week, but we did get Lito mixing drinks and Sun auditioning for a role - Okay, but let's be real this episode is fully about Lito - Andy Dick is here! - AND CHEYENNE JACKSON! - Hollywood is a different ballgame - "Maybe Aladdin at the start of a porno?" - Capheus Cares 2020! - It's nice to see Capheus taking the stage and gearing up to be a leader - Are we struggling with Capheus taking on a more political role? - Is this the most we've seen Capheus in a single episode this season? - Favorite Scenes - Favorite Lines Listener Feedback: - What are you rewatching? - People really want us to watch Downton Abbey Caitlin's Conjectures and Brittany's Brainstorms: - Sense8 season 2, episode 11, "You Want a War?" Episode #291: ‘Sense8’ 2×09 — Mogul of Evil

Join the ReWatchable hosts as they continue their re-watch with Sense8 season 2, episode 9, “What Family Actually Means.” Superfans: Danielle and Maj Newbies: Kristen and Natalie Fun Facts: Kristen is excited to see Ralph Breaks the Internet pretty soon after we finish recording this podcast. Natalie got up super early today, but she cheered on her Supernatural chums as they ran a marathon this morning. Maj has been watching A Discovery of Witches, and is enjoying it even despite a little cheesiness. Danielle is now officially a commuter for her job every day. Sense8 season 2, episode 9, “What Family Actually Means” - Synopsis - A quick check in with Wolfgang who is thinking about leaving town for good - Sun picks up her uniform for the gala and we talk about timelines and how these events on everyone's timelines line up. - Capheus has a convo with Silas after he catches Silas' men following him. - We can't help but believe Silas and give him a pass for all the unsavory things he's done. - Dani finds the perfect script for Lito, but it's a Hollywood film and that gives Lito some inferiority issues. - She then kicks serious ass and gets Lito a meeting with the movie's Academy Award winning producer. - We gush over Dani and her moment of triumph. - Kala is doing a little shopping and gossiping with her mom and sister. - Her attitude in this scene is a little off-putting. It's tough to hear her talk so negatively about women who have families and maybe don't prioritize their careers. - Skip ahead and Arjay comes for a visit. Totally weirded out by it. Both us and Kala. - We have a lot of feelings about Kala's terrible choices/indecisiveness. - Riley being in Chicago allows Will to visit his father on his deathbed despite not being able to physically be there. And then his father sees him, and we all start bawling. - And the newbies are both pretty confused as to what we saw in the basement flashbacks. The BPO story is hard to follow sometimes. - Nomi's story in this episode comes down to two moments: the toast and the wedding. - We disagree about whether Nomi's toast was a little too much about herself, but we agree that Teagan loved it and that is really all that matters. - The wedding. Bendix. Amanita. Nomi's father. Teagan. So much greatness. - Favorite Scenes - Favorite Lines Listener Feedback: - A listener wants us to consider Downton Abbey for future consideration. We shall see. Fisher's Forecasts and Kristen's Kontemplations: - Sense8 season 2, episode 10, “If All the World's a Stage, Identity Is Nothing But a Costume” Contact us! Episode #290: ‘Sense8’ 2×08 — Chocolate Fudge Brownie Feels

Join the ReWatchable hosts as they continue their re-watch with Sense8 season 2, episode 8, “All I Want Right Now is One More Bullet.” Superfans: Mitch and Maj Newbies: Kristen and Caitlin Fun Facts: Maj is feeding a growing genealogy addiction; against the odds, Kristen believes in the legacy of Legacies; Caitlin is a proud new computer mom (it's pink!,) and Mitch reviewed two new games in a row, including a remake of the 90s favorite dragon, Spyro. Sense8 season 2, episode 8, “All I Want Right Now is One More Bullet” - Synopsis - Jonas lives! (Someone saw this coming) - We'd have to be crazy to 100% trust Jonas, especially since his life is tied to Whispers now. - Capheus gets a visit from an old adversary who holds him at gunpoint. - Lito visits everyone in his misery and depression. - Sun reminds him of everything he has to be grateful for, and Lito reminds her that it's okay to have a good cry now and again. - Lito's career may be in flux after being let go by his agent, but he definitely has a path ahead if he wants to take it. - Sun is hiding at a "love hotel" in Seoul. Cash only, easy to stay hidden. - Sun's brother is going to host the gala, and she's going to hide in plain sight as a bartender thanks to Lito's flashy skills. - We're a little frustrated with Kala's storyline. She's cheating on him, and the show is making Rajan awful to make her seem less awful. - Will is just kind of tagging along with everyone else in this episode as he considers dipping back into the heroin. Kala helps him resist. - Whispers talk time. - Riley and Diego are on the hunt for the academic. Will chimes in as necessary. - Nomi is down for the count thanks to a pair of troublesome heels, so Bug/Amanita facetime Riley/Diego and it's nice to see Amanita get some connection to another of the sensates. - Lila's shadiness comes to a head in this episode as she pulls Wolfgang into a trap (that he's well aware he's walking into). - The newbies aren't really invested in Lila's story. - It was really cool to see all the sensates reacting to Wolfgang and Lila's fight. - Favorite Scenes - Favorite Lines Listener Feedback: - An email from a listener regarding Kala's importance (and a link to an important article). - A second email brings up some Capheus inconsistencies and addresses some of our Angelica concerns. Nasim reminds herself and us that academics aren't everything and we can still have fun and find joy! Kristen bought a HUGE TV, but has been using it to watch political coverage... there's so much more out there, like wildlife shows on Netflix! Danielle's reviews are in PRINT! ON REAL BOOKS! NEAR SIMON PEGG! WHAT?! Sense8 season 2, episode 7, “I Have No Room in My Heart for Hate” - Synopsis - Is Rajan a truly bad person? Or is he just tone deaf? - There's NOT ENOUGH TIME - Capheus's mom does not want her precious boy in politics - Pride follows you into your homes... and so do your gals' crazy ex and parents - Dani, please give us more! - Speaking of snakes... Lito's agent sucks - Talking to the cluster benefits Sun! - Iconic hug time - But then Mun shows up to fight/comfort her - Amanita's family is a nice group of fun people set against a tragedy - Riley goes to Chicago! - Diego has seen some shit. But is finally in the loop on things - INFO DUMP TIME - Is Will physically at Whispers home? - JONAS WTF - Favorite Scenes - Favorite Lines Listener Feedback: - Show suggestions! Episode #288: ‘Sense8’ 2×06 — What genre is it anyway?

Join the ReWatchable hosts as they continue their re-watch with Sense8 season 2, episode 6, “Isolated Above, Connected Below.” Superfans: Mitch and Danielle Newbies: Caitlin and Natalie Fun Facts: Danielle is really excited about her new podcasting microphone. Natalie finally started watching the new iteration of Queer Eye and is really enjoying it. Caitlin is currently finding some (much-needed) happiness in mainlining Holiday Baking Championship on the Food Network. Mitch is crying over the interview between Harry Styles and Timothée Chalamet. Sense8 season 2, episode 6, “Isolated Above, Connected Below” – Synopsis – Wait, wait, wait. How did the rave happen? What was the plan and who was ACTUALLY there at the rave? - Like Jupiter Ascending, Sense8 is very much wish fulfillment and we should just not question this. - Let's talk about Puck, baby. - Puck makes Felix look like he should always be walking around in a tuxedo. - Natalie is 100% here for Mr. Hoy. - We can imagine the sensates in a variety of different genres because their story covers so many aspects of the human experience. - Who is the Cannibal? - Riley is told to go to Chicago... Alone. Why? - Nomi gets called out as being narcissistic and we all kind of agree on that point. She could've waited 15 minutes, heard her sister out, and not run away from the dress fitting in her underwear to go stomp around the ruins of a cabin in the woods. - Raoul burns down the cabin, but we can't decide how he was being controlled. - Seriously, what is UP with Angelica and why is she the WORST? - Sun's dog crying was the worst thing that happened in this episode because SHE'S SO PRECIOUS. - We take a detour and talk about London, Primrose Hill, and where exactly Riley and Will are squatting (which is SUPER exciting for those who have never been to London). - Lito does the São Paulo Pride Parade and it's so lovely. - Capheus 2.0 is the right iteration of Capheus to run for political office. Capheus 1.0, not so much. - Zakia's pansexuality is a really interesting layer to add to the show at this point. - Capheus' mom's stride of pride is definitely note-worthy. - The Kalagang sex scene is *very* uncomfortable and we hated every minute of it. - Kala's "fantasy" is really problematic here. - The Kalagang ship isn't sailing here. At. All. - Lila kills a LOT of people. - Favorite Scenes – Favorite Lines Listener Feedback: – This is the Queer Place points out another great line from last week's episode. - We get an email from a listener going through our Buffy the Vampire Slayer round who has some thoughts on the rules of vampirism. And we have a lot of our own thoughts in return. Caitlin’s Conjectures and Fisher's Forecasts: – Sense8 season 2, episode 7, “I Have No Room in My Heart for Hate” Contact us! Caitlin in prepping for Halloween and her tradition of watching The Nightmare Before Christmas and eating pizza. Maj turned the clocks back and did NOT miss the podcast. Sense8 season 2, episode 5, "Fear Never Fixed Anything" - Synopsis - Jonas is dead and the cluster mourns - Are the cluster scenes getting to be too much? - Wolfgang turns down sex and is actually a character - Eyes up here, Mister - Kala's whining is getting old - But Rajan is also not doing such great things with the drugs - Capheus' acting vibes are not jiving well - Why does Capheus take the 15-minute break? - Sun has her DOG! - And her father figure! Episode #286: 'Sense8' 2x04 -- We're All About the Sun and Mun

Join the ReWatchable hosts as they continue their re-watch with Sense8 season 2, episode 4, "Polyphony." Superfans: Mitch and Nasim Newbies: Natalie and Kristen Fun Facts: Nasim just spent a week vegging out and watching shows, which is basically the dream. Kristen is having a good day because her Lions won. Natalie is staring into a black abyss, but is also becoming a bear weirdo, so that's fun. Mitch has a two part woodland creature fun fact in honor of Natalie's love for them. Sense8 season 2, episode 4, "Polyphony" - Synopsis - Will doesn't have a whole lot to do, but he does escape the museum, so YAY! - The infamous Lito crying gif scene has arrived and we love him. - Natalie wonders how the Wachowskis went about building this particular cluster. Did they start with the jobs or the character-types or what? - Sun & Mun have a knock down drag out when he discovers her hiding place. - Was Mun the guy Sun lost her virginity to in that flashback we saw in "Happy Fucking New Year"? We discuss. - Nasim really appreciates the K-drama aspect of this storyline. - Felix is happy to partake in all the benefits of using the club, as he hasn't experienced this type of power before. - Wolfgang is a lot more jaded due to his life experience. - Lila has definitely made some sort of deal with the BPO to help them track down other sensates. - Kala and Wolfgang have a moment and we learn that maybe Kala doesn't want to be such a good girl all the time. - Kala and her mother-in-law go to temple which brings us to the montage of protests, uprisings, and car chases. - Capheus saves a baby at the water riot, and then goes on TV and says some incredibly moving, relatable things. - Riley meets a new sensate named Puck who is going to make more blocker pills. - Kala gets to use all her incredible chemistry knowledge. - Mitch is grateful that the show questioned the science for him. - Raoul was zombified, which is why he disappeared and his father never heard back from him. - This sequence was packed with so much information we all kind of feel like we need to watch again to see all the things we missed. - Jonas is being lobotomized and Will and Nomi can see it. - Angelica is confusing the hell out of all of us. - Favorite Scenes - A little Nomi talk because we skipped her storyline. Oops. - Favorite Lines Listener Feedback: - We got some interesting, varying responses to our, "Would you want to be a part of a cluster (if you had the choice)" poll. Thanks for all your thoughts! Kristen's amazing roommate took her to see A Star Is Born because her roommate is amazing. Karen needs some Halloween costume ideas. And Danielle met some guy named Chros Evons or something. Sense8 season 2, episode 3, "Obligate Mutualisms" - Synopsis - Danielle was in Amsterdam when Sense8 was filming this episode. - Check out the Q&A Danielle was talking about! - We loved seeing Will get one over on Whispers and his role has continued to grow in amazing ways. - What do you mean not everyone wants to be a Sensate? - Everyone has a lot of questions. - Jonas' father is so adorable. - BPO wasn't always evil? - Oh yeah, Sensates would make good spies, wouldn't they? - The end of this episode was also action-packed, but maybe in not a totally good way. - Poor Lito is dealing with a lot even outside the whole Whispers thing. - As always, Lito and Hernando are perfect. - And Daniela finally gets the formal invite! - But we're still confused over exactly what their relationship entails. - We don't see a whole lot of Capheus this episode. - Some of the other hosts weigh in on the fact that this is a new Capheus. - How do we feel about Lila? - How does the visiting work again? - Natalie has a theory. - Do Nomanita ever get their carbs? - Some of the Sensates feel Sun's pain sooner than others. - Why do the dead Sensates keeping showing up? - Sun's hanging is super hard to watch even though it's very well done. - Why is everyone sneaking through the parking lot? - How did Sun get away with stealing that bus? - Mrs. Cho is the best but her backstory is ALSO about how men are terrible. - Favorite Scenes - Favorite Lines Listener Feedback: - Have you ever had Icelandic yogurt? - Z U T A R A F O R E V E R Kristen's Kontemplations and Fisher's Forecasts: - Sense8 season 2, episode 4, "Polyphony" Contact us!
