Damp Drinking, Dry Month, Soberish? Understanding the Different Approaches to Drink Less or Not at All

Damp Drinking, Dry Month, Soberish? Understanding the Different Approaches to Drink Less or Not at All

Are you doing Dry July? Confused by all the terms surrounding drinking habits—like ‘soberish,’ ‘dry,’ ‘damp,’ ‘sober curious,’ and ‘mindful drinking’? Join us as Molly Desch returns to the show to clarify these various drinking-related terms. Molly went from “balls to the wall drinking to 100% sober overnight” while I spent YEARS trying to change my drinking.

We talk about:

  • The definition of ‘damp drinking’ and its intended audience
  • Potential concerns associated with a damp or ‘soberish’ lifestyle
  • The advantages of damp drinking or drinking less
  • The importance of having supportive spaces to practice not drinking
  • Our personal experiences with getting sober
  • And more!

My personal viewpoint is we need things like Dry July and sober curiosity to raise world wide awareness to the harmful effects of alcohol.

We need safe, nonjudgemental places for people to learn about alcohol and practice not drinking, not shame them into sobriety or send them back to drinking.
