153. How Your Jealousies Can Reveal The Life You Really Want w/ Shauna Niequist

What's it going to take for you to FINALLY live the life you want to live? For me it was a brain tumor. For Shauna Niequist, it was the painful realization that her stress, exhaustion, and overwhelm had turned into nothing: complete numbness. But wasn't Shauna was living her dream..? Multiple #NYT bestselling author, frequently booked international lecturer, and celebrated thought leader? Despite the success, she realized that her inability to be present with the people she truly loved the most - her husband and her children - was the final straw. As she says in her bestseller #PresentOverPerfect: "It's very hard to be loved and connected to the people in your home when you're always bringing them your most exhausted self and resenting the fact that the scraps you're giving them aren't cutting it.” Shauna's decision to choose presence over perfection wasn't an easy one; as she mentions in the interview, saying yes to some people means saying no to others. But if we're guaranteed to disappoint people, shouldn't we make those people the least important people, rather than our closest loved ones? In today's beautiful convo, Shauna and I discuss how to make those decisions as we inevitably disappoint certain people in our lives so we can honor those we love the most. 17. From Diagnosis to Recovery with the Help of #BetterTogetherWithMaria

Maria met Wendy at this little, organic cafe in Connecticut where she told Maria how listening to our podcast, #BetterTogetherWithMaria helped her to avert major surgeries and to navigate what seemed like a hopeless health crisis. Extremely honored to be approached by Wendy and hearing how tuning in to us weekly so dramatically improved her situation, Maria had Wendy come on the show to tell us about her struggle with a colitis diagnosis and how the podcast helped her recover and stay healthy. As this is truly the purpose of our show, Wendy’s journey reminded Maria, and hopefully many of you, of two things: 1. that we are truly BETTER TOGETHER and 2. as Maya Angelou says, ‘when we know better we do better.’ On today’s new episode Wendy, a young woman filled with dreams and light, relays just how she overcame a familiar and threatening health crisis. Please continue to spread the word about our show ... along with the message that we are all #BetterTogether ❤️ --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/better-together-w-maria/support
