PAUSE… Feel the warmth of the moon, As it shines down on your face, Its glow release your tiredness, Brings calm to your racing pace. LONG PAUSE… Imagine a gentle breeze, Caressing your tired skin, Its coolness brings refreshment, Soothes your senses within. PAUSE… Breathe in deep and breathe out slow, Feel your body glow, With every breath you take in, Relaxation starts to flow. PAUSE… Release each thought as you breathe, Watch them fade away so light, As you sink deeper into peace, And become one with the night. LONG PAUSE… Visualize a waterfall, With its cascading flow, The sound of water soothes you, And lets the tension go. PAUSE… Feel your body become light, As exhaustion fades away, Your muscles feel so loose, Everything will be okay. Give yourself over to a moment of peace, And take a break from all in your midst. PAUSE… Sometimes, you just need to slow things down, To give yourself time to think. But when time itself evaporates before your eyes, It feels impossible to slip away. PAUSE… There’s always something that needs doing, Always someone to make a request. You say yes, and yes, and yes some more, And then run out of time and space. PAUSE… You feel like a fool for agreeing, But you’d feel like a jerk for saying no. There’s no good approach to pleasing everyone, And the clock works against you at every turn. PAUSE… Don’t blame yourself for your kindness. Don’t beat yourself up for trying. If anything, change your perception of time, Stop competing with an invisible opponent. PAUSE… Think of time as a powerful tool, A way of ordering your world. Use it to serve your purposes, And set it aside as often as you can. PAUSE… Decide when you are off the clock, And when it just doesn’t exist. Take a block of time back for yourself, And don’t worry about the risk. PAUSE… We may owe the world certain things, And we definitely have bills to pay. But our hearts and souls have clocks of their own, And the world at large doesn’t have a say. PAUSE… The freedom to reorder time like this Is already in your grasp. You don’t need permission, it’s more like a decision, One that belongs to you alone. PAUSE… It’s often difficult to claim what we own, Even when we desperately want to do so. We think we owe others more than ourselves, And we pay the price without question. PAUSE… In truth, your allegiance must be to you, For you are your greatest ally. When you need affirmation of your own importance, Your heart and soul will gladly comply. PAUSE… Though things get cloudy in the outside world, Making it tough to see what’s real, The view is always crystal clear, When you peer out from deep within. PAUSE… So push that outer clock out of the way. Consult it only when you must. You don’t want waste even one soul minute, Giving power to an unnecessary device. PAUSE… So let it all unravel, this image of time, That makes you feel like there’s not enough. And then exhale,  And release.  PAUSE… Breathe in deep one more time, Gathering up all the worries, the plans, the details. Hold it at the top, And then release,  Breathing all of it out. PAUSE… Let your breathing settle into a soft, Gentle rhythm, As you bring yourself inside. Notice the slow rising, And falling, Of your belly and chest.  Notice the cool air on your nose as you breathe in, And the warm air on your nose as you breathe out.  Notice the soft sounds of the night, Humming lightly in the background.  Be here, And just breathe. LONG PAUSE… Now imagine a soft, indigo blue light, Hovering just above your head. See if you can feel its warmth, Melting onto you, And covering you with peace. PAUSE… Feel it gently cover and soften your forehead, Your eyes, Your cheeks, And your lips.  Let your jaw release, And drop your tongue from the roof of your mouth.  Feel your entire face soften and relax. PAUSE… Imagine the indigo light falling gently, Down your neck,  Covering your shoulders, And traveling down your right arm, And your left arm.  PAUSE… Imagine the indigo light, Pulling out the tension, Releasing the stress, And relaxing you deep, Deep, Into the night.  LONG PAUSE… The soft glow of the indigo light, Slowly moves down your body, Blanketing your stomach, And your hips. You feel it streaming down your back, From the top of your neck, Down, down, down, To the bottom of your spine. Slowly relaxing you, As you let go, Release, And allow your body to sink into the night.  LONG PAUSE… The warm glow of the indigo light, Descends down the expanse of your right leg, Then your left leg, Relaxing the thighs, Your knees, Your ankles, And your feet. PAUSE… Allow any remaining thoughts, Worries, Or emotions, To float down, Down, Out of you, Releasing themselves into the darkness, And floating far, Far away, From you. LONG PAUSE… Feel your body softly hum, With the comforting vibrations of the loving indigo light.  She covers you tonight, As you melt deeper into the safe arms of sleep. LONG PAUSE And breathe in deeply again, letting the cool, comfort of your bed relax you as you sink deeper into it. LONG PAUSE And as you breathe, let your breath form a rhythm, gently moving in and out and lulling you into  a deep, restful calm. LONG PAUSE Now, imagine the breath lightening your body, so that it feels more open, almost weightless. PAUSE And with this beautiful, relaxed feeling, notice the sheets of your bed transforming into fluffy clouds beneath your body. PAUSE After a moment,  the clouds lift you up out of room and above the house, sailing slowly and gently through the air. PAUSE The air is like satin around you, giving you a  wonderful level of comfort as you float along. PAUSE Now, imagine the cloud taking you to a wooden door with a arched frame and iron spikes all around like a gate… a door that leads to a garden. PAUSE The door creaks open and the cloud lets you down, and you are amazed at the lushness of the summer garden before you. PAUSE There are white and yellow daisies, purple geraniums, pink peonies and brilliant magenta hibiscus blooming everywhere. PAUSE You breathe in and catch the scent of lilac blossoming in a corner, Its beautiful purple stocks bending in the breeze. PAUSE As you stroll through  the rows of rainbow colored flowers, one of the hibiscus flowers catches your attention: A tiny pink and green hummingbird is sipping its nectar. PAUSE You draw closer to the flower, and the bird doesn’t seem to mind, as you watch its tiny wings beat so fast you can barely see them there. PAUSE After a satisfying drink, the little hummingbird lifts in the air and leaves the garden. PAUSE Moments later a honeybee lands on a daisy, buzzing like a violin. PAUSE Safely, you watch the bee as it goes right to work gathering its food and then flitting to  another flower,  pollinating it and giving the garden  continued life. PAUSE Moments later, a dragonfly flutters by, pausing briefly in the air and then on the ground, its stain-glass wings shimmering in the sunlight. PAUSE A tiny black and gold chipmunk pokes it head out from behind a shrub, and a bushy-tailed squirrel shakes a pine tree bouncing from limb to limb. PAUSE In the center of the garden, you notice a fountain carved from stone with two cherubs dancing on top. PAUSE Water tunnels out from the  heart of one of the cherubs, splashing gently into the water below. As you draw near, you notice  two large koi fish  swimming in the fountain, Their golden scales slimmering in the water. PAUSE You pause, and sit on a stone bench near the fountain, so you can take in all the beauty of the garden. PAUSE After a while, you notice the sun slowly fading, and the azure blue sky turing to midnight blue. PAUSE A few fireflies light up the garden, and you watch their hypnotic lights before noticing the fluffy cloud has returned. PAUSE It’s time to leave the summer garden but you now carry its beauty with you, day and night. Every day. Swaddle yourself as best you can, And let the night’s comfort begin. PAUSE… When was the last time you felt secure, Completely safe, warm, and content? It’s odd that we think we outgrow those things, That we no longer need what they represent. PAUSE… At our core, we’ll always be children, No matter what age we reach. Even if we become parents as well, We continue to learn what we teach. PAUSE… The lessons don’t always come equally, And some you might never learn at all. But others affect your very survival, Protecting you from a fall. PAUSE… First, you deserve to know you’re loved, To know you’re worth the effort. And even if you’re the one caring for you, It’s okay to tend to what hurts. PAUSE… It’s also okay to speak your mind, To get your struggles off your chest. To sleep a calm and restful sleep, Unencumbered by life’s distress. PAUSE… You deserve to feel like you matter. You deserve the chance to thrive. You deserve to know anything’s possible, And you deserve to keep hope alive. PAUSE… Perhaps you have someone to tell you these things, A partner, a sibling, a friend. But even if your life has vacancies, You have a life-force on which to depend.  PAUSE… If you let it, your spirit will care for you, Reminding you what you once knew. Your essence is there to guide you back home, And to point out what will always be true. PAUSE… Your spirit is what keeps you safe, Planting signs along the way. It becomes your lifelong nurturer, If you listen to what it has to say.   Take a breath and hear that voice, the quiet truth within. Breathe out and feel the peace it brings, let it soothe your mind to sleep. LONG PAUSE… Think about how, so long ago, Loving arms might have carried you to bed. They gently lowered you, then tucked you in, Pressing a sweet kiss to your head. PAUSE… Dig deep to remember that feeling, That perfect, carefree moment. Practice conjuring it up, every night, Pull that safe feeling back into your present. PAUSE… Think about other special acts, Rituals of younger days. The perfect pjs, a favorite story, Little jokes and loving displays. PAUSE… Picture the grown-up version of these, Both playful acts and those of self-care. Imagine each evening unfolding that way, Loving habits your young self can share. PAUSE… It’s not silly to want to end the day well, Not childish or selfish or strange. Learning to tuck yourself in for the night, Can only reflect positive change. PAUSE… Perhaps you’ll start to sleep like a baby. Maybe you’ll wake up with a smile. Maybe you’ll start to look forward to bedtime, To the chance to unplug for a while. PAUSE… By now, you know what a challenge it is, To live life as a full-fledged adult. Maybe the reason we all struggle so much, Is our refusal to admit we need help. PAUSE… You might not need the predictable type, More like a boost for the soul. And if childhood routines can help you find joy, Then they certainly have their role. PAUSE… Let your mind wander through your past, Allow it to slip back in time. For a few sweet and lovely minutes, Let those memories shine.   Breathe in as you picture a littler you, capture that hopeful delight.
