LONG PAUSE And as you shift your focus, allow yourself to just let go. Let go of any distracting thoughts and stuff them in a basket so you can stay in the present. LONG PAUSE Now, embrace yourself with gentleness and self-love as you continue quieting the mind and letting go, So there’s nothing but you in this moment LONG PAUSE Now, imagine being carried to Italy, to the magnificent Tuscan countryside not far from the art and beauty of Florence. PAUSE As you land in the breathtaking land, you notice green, rolling hills that flow across the countryside like a sheet gently blowing in a breeze. PAUSE And as your eye travels over the land, you are taken in by a symphony of wonders to your senses. PAUSE You breathe in the fresh air, and with it the subtle woody scent of olive trees blooming in the distance. PAUSE As your eye catches sight of the trees, the beauty of the tiny white blossoms moves you, making a spiritual connection to you and the stunning countryside. PAUSE You draw in another breath rich with the fragrance of grapes on the vine. The honey scent lulls you into a state of deep calm. PAUSE After a few minutes, your ears are treated to the delightful sound of a bird singing. PAUSE Moments later, other birds begin chirping, letting their songs ring through the countryside. PAUSE As you walk through the hills, a brown rabbit hops before you on the path. He pauses, looks cautiously at you and then hops along. PAUSE Then, your eye catches a number of stone towers guarding the countryside, old towers built by medieval nobles for protection. PAUSE As you approach one of the towers, you feel its ancestors welcoming you and its protective energies building a fortress around you. PAUSE Along your walk, you notice an area where the sounds of bubbles call out to you. You follow the call to a natural mineral spring. PAUSE Gingerly, you step over the stones leading the gently bubbling spring until you can dip your feet iInto the healing waters. PAUSE The air is moist with hints of sulphur from the spring and the sweetness of grapes from a nearby winery. And the sound of the spring gently burbling relaxes you. PAUSE A velvety breeze brushes against your cheeks while the warm Tuscan sun alights on your face. PAUSE After the mineral bath, you decide to visit the winery nearby, and are awed by the array of chianti flavors dancing on your tongue. PAUSE There are woody and dried fruit flavors tickling your palate, along with smoky and herbal tastes, all blended into delicious elixirs. PAUSE The winery offers lodging, so you decide to stay the night and are treated to a feast of breads and olive oils, wines, sharp cheeses, pasta rich with tomatoey flavors, and chocolate, smooth and luxurious. PAUSE Before bed, you stretch out on a chair in the garden, watching Italy’s golden sun drop below the horizon, and seeing a silver full moon bathe the countryside in light. PAUSE The moon rises high and large in the sky, casting its light across the rolling hills, vineyards and olive trees, painting a picture more beautiful than any art.. PAUSE And as the Tuscan night unfolds around you, you close your eyes and let the magic of Tuscany flourish within you and your dreams. PAUSE… Feel this warm white light dissolve the pain, And ease any discomfort.  Feel the pressure release. Take a deep, cleansing breath in, gathering up all the things left of the day, And as you exhale, breathe them all out. One more deep breath in, feeling the cool air cleanse you, And exhale your day out.  Bring your breathing to a smooth, natural rhythm, And just be here for a bit, Aware of your body, The space it takes up, The rhythmic movement of your breathing, The heaviness of your eyes, The weight of your body on your bed. Breathe... And be here with your breath. PAUSE... Bring your attention to the crown of your head, And imagine a soft, purple light glowing here. Warming you,  Putting your mind at ease, And infusing your entire body with calm from the top down. PAUSE… Now feel that warm, purple light as it touches your face, Kissing your eyes as they grow heavier, Relaxing your cheeks as your jaw releases and lowers, Softening your lips,  Your chin, And your ears. Feel your entire head melt deeper into your pillow. PAUSE… Now observe as this soft, purple light dances around your neck,  Releasing any tension, Travels down to your shoulders as they lower with ease, And covers your chest, softening and soothing. Feel the warmth it gives to everywhere it touches. PAUSE… The purple light is now glowing all the way down your arms. Feel the warm tingle in your fingers as your body gets heavier and heavier. And welcome the warmth into your belly, Your hips, And your thighs, The soft, purple light soothing you,  And guiding you into the depth of peaceful sleep.  PAUSE… Notice as your legs get heavier, like steel sinking to the bottom of the ocean,  Falling further and further into the comfort of your bed.  And let the purple light warmly buzz into your feet,  Releasing any tension, And anchoring you into the depth of the night.  PAUSE… Let the waves of sleep wash over you, beautiful, Covering you in the calm mist of purple light, And embracing you on your journey of peaceful sleep tonight. So in the evening, he cut out the shoes which he wished to make the next morning. And as he had a good conscience, he lay down quietly in his bed, commended himself to God, and fell asleep. In the morning, after he had said his prayers, and was just going to sit down to work, lo! both shoes stood all finished on his table. He was astounded, and did not know what to say. He took the shoes in his hands to examine them closer, and they were so neatly made that there was not one bad stitch in them, just as if they were meant for a masterpiece. Soon after, a buyer came in, and as the shoes pleased him well, he paid more for them than was customary. And, with the money, the shoemaker was able to purchase leather for two pairs of shoes. He cut them out at night, and next morning was about to set to work with fresh courage; but he had no need to do so, for, when he got up, they were already made. And buyers also were not wanting, who gave him money enough to buy leather for four pairs of shoes. The following morning, too, he found the four pairs made. And so it went on constantly, what he cut out in the evening was finished by morning, so that he soon had his honest living again, and at last became a wealthy man. Now it befell that, one evening not long before Christmas, when the man had been cutting out, he said to his wife, before going to bed, “What think you, if we were to stay up to-night to see who it is that lends us this helping hand?” The woman liked the idea, and lighted a candle, and then they hid themselves in a corner of the room, behind some clothes which were hanging there, and watched. When it was midnight, two pretty tiny naked Little Men came, sat down by the shoemaker’s table, took all the work which was cut out before them and began to stitch, sew, and hammer so skilfully and so quickly with their little fingers, that the shoemaker could not turn away his eyes for astonishment. They did not stop until all was done, and stood finished on the table, and then they ran quickly away. Next morning, the woman said, “The Little Men have made us rich, and we really must show that we are grateful for it. They run about so much, and have nothing on, and must be cold. I’ll tell you what I’ll do. I will make them little shirts, coats, vests, and trousers, and knit both of them a pair of stockings. Do you make them two little pairs of shoes.” The man said, “I shall be very glad to do it.” And one night, when everything was ready, they laid their presents, instead of the cut-out work, all together on the table, and then concealed themselves to see how the Little Men would behave. At midnight they came bounding in, and wanted to get to work at once. But as they did not find any leather cut out, only the pretty little articles of clothing, they were at first astonished, and then they showed intense delight. They dressed themselves with the greatest rapidity, putting the pretty clothes on, and singing: “Now we are boys so fine to see, Why should we longer cobblers be?” Then they danced and skipped and leapt over chairs and benches. At last, they danced out of doors. Inhale deeply, Following the air as it fills up your belly, And hold it for a moment.  And then exhale completely, Letting all that air go, And tightening your stomach at the end, As the very last drops of air are released.  PAUSE… Relax into a nice, easy rhythm of breathing, Slowing it down bit by bit with every single breath.  PAUSE… Let it soothe your body, And calm your mind.  LONG PAUSE… Now look upon your mind from afar. This beautiful part of you, Who loves to stay active, Electric, And bursting with thoughts.   PAUSE… Notice the colors, The greens and yellows and pinks, Painting your mind as they move, Sparkle,  And create.  PAUSE… Notice the bubbles of black, The mini clouds of grey, Spreading across with worry, And stress. PAUSE… Notice it all there, Encapsulated in your mind, This gorgeous, magical entity of color.  LONG PAUSE… Now breathe out, Over and over again, And notice the movement of your mind, Slow down, Lighten, And calm.  LONG PAUSE… Breathe out, And notice the colors that were sparkling within, The colors that were painted inside, Are lightening, Dissolving, And disappearing. Slowly, Piece by piece, Shade by shade, Drifting away from your mind, And into the nothingness of the night. LONG PAUSE… Look upon your mind from afar, Your body melted deep into your bed, Safe within your sheets.  PAUSE… Listen for it, The gentle sounds of silence, Coming from your calm mind. PAUSE… Feel it, The absence of movement, The space to be. The space to surrender to sleep. PAUSE… Breathe… And feel the calm, In your body, In your mind, Within your soul.
