Is There An Antidote To Stress? with Dr. Rangan Chatterjee

Is There An Antidote To Stress? with Dr. Rangan Chatterjee

We’re up against a chronic epidemic: stress. In fact, it’s estimated that 80% or more of doctors’ visits are due to illnesses related to stress. This can come in many different forms. Socioeconomic stress is a real burden for many people, as is the stress of taking care of several generations within a family, or meeting the demands of our jobs. Stress can also come in the form of bad food and poor or inadequate sleep, which send negative signals to the brain that produce stress hormones. That doesn’t mean we’re stuck with stress though. Today on The Doctor’s Farmacy, I’m joined by my good friend Dr. Rangan Chatterjee to look at the many sides of stress and all the actions we can take to stop it in its tracks. Dr. Chatterjee is regarded as one of the most influential doctors in the UK and wants to change how medicine will be practiced for years to come. He hosts the biggest health podcast in Europe, Feel Better, Live More, which Apple has announced as one of the most downloaded new podcasts of the past year. His first book, How to Make Disease Disappear, is an international bestseller all over the world and has sold over 250,000 copies worldwide in just 18 months. His most recent book, the #1 bestseller, The Stress Solution, tackles what the WHO calls the health epidemic of our time—stress. This episode is brought to you by ButcherBox and Joovv. ButcherBox is currently offering listeners of the podcast 2 lbs of wild-caught Alaskan sockeye salmon PLUS $20 off your first box. Here are more of the details from our interview: -The personal experience that changed Dr. Chatterjee’s approach to practicing medicine (6:22) -Why Dr. Chatterjee chose to focus on the topic of stress in his latest book, The Stress Solution (15:25) -The power of identifying if there is a trigger point in your week that leads to the bulk of your stress (19:26) -How stress affects your physiology and why finding meaning and purpose in your life is so important to your stress resiliency (23:53) -Managing your mindset as it relates to what you can vs what you cannot control (36:15) -How lack of downtime contributes to stress, the brain’s default mode network, and our toxic relationship to technology (38:34) -How to create a morning routine in as little as 5 minutes (48:32) -Creating new behaviors and habits (55:34) -The daily gratitude exercise Dr. Chatterjee practices with his family (57:33) -The importance of touch and intimacy (1:00:37) Find Dr. Chatterjee online at https://drchatterjee.com/ and follow him on Facebook @DrChatterjee, on Instagram @DrChatterjee, and on Twitter @drchatterjeeuk.

Are Your Gut Issues, Headaches, Heart Palpitations, And Other Symptoms Due To Histamine Intolerance?

Are Your Gut Issues, Headaches, Heart Palpitations, And Other Symptoms Due To Histamine Intolerance?

This episode is brought to you by Rupa Health, Mitopure, and Cozy Earth.  Histamine is a common term when discussing allergies, but there is really so much more to it. Histamine is both made by the body and found in food. It has a key function in digestion and also acts as a neurotransmitter. People who have more histamine in their bodies than they can break down may experience a variety of symptoms including hives, heart palpitations, migraines, fluid retention, runny nose, and more. Often, histamine intolerance can be traced back to gut dysbiosis and mast cell activation syndrome. In today’s episode, I talk with Dr. Todd LePine, Dr. Leo Galland, and Lisa Dreher about how histamine plays a role in sleep, digestion, allergies, skin conditions, and so much more. Dr. Todd LePine graduated from Dartmouth Medical School and is board certified in internal medicine, specializing in integrative Functional Medicine. He is an Institute for Functional Medicine Certified Practitioner. Prior to joining The UltraWellness Center, he worked as a physician at Canyon Ranch in Lenox, MA, for 10 years. Dr. Leo Galland is a board-certified internist, an international bestselling author, and one of the founders of Functional Medicine. Since the onset of the pandemic, he has devoted most of his time to research on Covid-19 and to the education of other health practitioners in understanding the biology of the disease. His latest publication, Long Covid: Prevention and Treatment, is available on his website. Lisa Dreher is a registered dietitian who got her undergraduate nutrition degree at the Rochester Institute of Technology and completed a dietetic internship through Cornell University. Lisa first worked in the acute care hospital setting and became a clinical nutrition specialist working in pediatric gastroenterology at the University of Rochester Medical Center. At the same time, she pursued her master’s degree in nutrition and integrative health from the Maryland University of Integrative Health and started practicing integrative and functional nutrition in private practice before joining The UltraWellness Center in 2015. Is There A Way Out Of Our Political Mess That Makes America Healthier? with Marianne Williamson

This episode is brought to you by Rupa Health, BiOptimizers, Levels, and AlgaeCal. We live in a country that claims to be based on science, goodwill, and policies intended to help people. Is It Okay To Eat Cheese And What Types Of Dairy Should You Avoid?

Is It Okay To Eat Cheese And What Types Of Dairy Should You Avoid?

This episode is brought to you by Rupa Health and BiOptimizers. We’re told that milk is a perfect food that we should drink daily—three glasses to be exact—in spite of a large (and growing) body of research showing its lack of benefits and awful side effects. Even though cow’s milk today contains dozens of reproductive hormones, allergenic proteins, antibiotics, and growth factors, some of which are known to promote cancer, the dairy industry wants us to believe that their cows are happily producing milk and grazing through green pastures. For the most part, that couldn’t be further from the truth. In today’s episode of my series I’m calling Health Bites, I talk about common dairy myths, why it is such a contentious food, how to tackle the pros and cons of whether it belongs in your diet, and which dairy is actually okay to eat.  This episode is brought to you by Rupa Health and BiOptimizers.  Access more than 3,000 specialty lab tests with Rupa Health. You can check out a free, live demo with a Q&A or create an account at RupaHealth.com today. If you want to tackle an overlooked root cause of stress, go to magbreakthrough.com/hyman and get 10% off of Bioptimizers Magnesium Breakthrough with promo code hyman10. Here are more details from our interview (audio version / Apple Subscriber version): How the dairy industry drives headlines claiming milk is good for us (4:45 / 1:34) Why we don’t need milk for strong bones (7:55 / 5:58)  Milk is a lousy source of calcium (9:25 / 7:32) Alternate sources of calcium (11:10 / 9:14)  Milk increases your risk for cancer (12:50 / 10:56) Dairy fat is not the problem (14:26 / 12:30) Is butter bad for you? (15:08 / 14:18)  My recommendations for eating dairy (17:31 / 15:36)  What should you look for when buying a dairy product? (20:47 /17:20)  Mentioned in this episode Milk and Health
