226. Sam & Lola in LA LA LAND - THE HOLLYWOOD PITCH – The Secret To Selling Your Creative Idea

In this episode we talk about pitching TV shows, music videos, commercials, books and films. In a nutshell a pitch is an idea (in our case a creative one) that you’re trying to essentially sell to people or businesses that can help bring that idea to life through either their resources, skill set or financing the project. The interesting thing about this topic is that being able to pitch an idea comes in handy in almost any industry, not just the entertainment media and world.

We deep dive into pitching in Hollywood, TV commercials and how Sam used to get his ideas and pitches across the line with big clients. And I talk about the book world and how I’ve pitched ideas for each of my 11 books, from the outside you might think that book deals come through thick and fast, but the truth is they don’t.

Each and every one goes through a pitching process. And in this episode we break down each step to pitching from the first idea to the finished product.

You’ll not only get inside tips and experiences from us but Sam will talk you through his mate’s Marcus’ (who’s the creator and founder of The Great Pitch Company, you can check them out here http://thegreatpitchocmpany.com/) 3 key pitching points:

1) Whatever you are pitching, you need to make an emotional connection with the person that you are pitching to. People often fall into the trap of giving good rational responses to pitch briefs but they fail to forget that human beings ultimately decide on emotion and they justify with reason.

2) Don’t pitch to strangers. Of course pitching often involves pitching to people you don’t know - or does it? At the very least, you can do your homework about the people you are meeting by looking at their social media profiles such as LinkedIn. And of course, you should use every opportunity to get in front of the person before the final pitch - so they are not strangers on pitch day. Build a relationship with these people. Relationships are crucial.

3) It’s not what you say, it’s the way you say it. Any great pitch should inform and entertain. If you fail at either one, then you are likely to fail at both. Avoid jargon and speak plainly - talk from the heart not the chart. And plan a big finish so you don’t end on a whimper.

We hope you love this ep, please share, like, subscribe and tell your mates.

Big love from,
