What You Should Know About Women's Brains with Jim Kwik

What You Should Know About Women's Brains with Jim Kwik

What should you know about women’s brains?  The historical conception that male brains are superior to female brains is finally being overturned—but while there is no difference in our intelligence, there are subtle structural differences in female brains that can heighten the risk of health conditions for women, including Alzheimer’s disease, migraines, and depression. Few people are aware of this, so raising awareness and helping people to feel more comfortable seeking assistance with these types of health concerns is incredibly important.  An international researcher in Alzheimer’s prevention, author of the incredible book Brain Food, and a nutrition expert and neuroscientist, today’s guest Lisa Mosconi has years of invaluable nutrition and neuroscience knowledge from a career spent working to prevent brain deterioration.  You can check out my previous episode with Lisa here: Episode 88: Eating For Your Brain with Dr. Lisa Mosconi  In this episode, we’ll explain the differences between female and male brains, including differences in hormones and health risks. We’ll explain some ways you can become more aware of women’s brain health, and explain what a typical brain scan might look like for a woman experiencing a decline in brain health. Finally, we’ll tell you why you should take care of yourself in the busiest decades of your life, and why you (or the women in your life) should never be ashamed of seeking out health treatment.  ** Do you want to stay up to date with every new episode and get my brand new Kwik Brain Accelerator Program? Little-Known Mental Fitness Exercise with Jim Kwik

Little-Known Mental Fitness Exercise with Jim Kwik

How can you use math to build your mental fitness?  People often talk about wanting to increase their physical fitness—they want to be more flexible, agile, and have more energy, but what about being mentally fit? One of the greatest exercises we can do to build our mental fitness is math. Aside from boosting our brainpower, math can also build our confidence, make us feel capable, and help us to tackle obstacles in other areas of our lives.  You might know Danica from her role as Winnie Cooper in Wonder Years, but what you might not know is that in addition to her lifelong acting career, Danica is an internationally-recognized mathematician, New York Times best-selling author and advocate for math education.  In this conversation, we explain how you can build mental fitness through math, and gain confidence that nobody will be able to take from you. We’ll talk about how math can help you to overcome life’s obstacles and feel more capable. Lastly, we’ll tell how you can rebrand math so it is no longer something to fear.  ** Do you want to stay up to date with every new episode and get my brand new Kwik Brain Accelerator Program? Discovering Your Dominant Question with Mindpump

Discovering Your Dominant Question with Mindpump

The process of thinking is nothing but asking and answering questions. Our thinking changes the shape of our lives, so the questions we ask ourselves matter, whether it’s “how can I learn this?” or “how can I get healthier?” We’re asking ourselves questions all the time, but we’re often not conscious of them and how they impact our behavior. Used properly, questions are a useful tool to take the knowledge and turn it into action.  In this episode, you’ll hear from my friends at the Mindpump Media Podcast and how you can uncover the questions you might not have been aware you were asking yourself, and how to use them to effect change in your life—and.  We also talk about how our brain chooses what subjects to focus on, how our memories work, and quick tips for learning and notetaking. How to Complain Effectively with Guy Winch

How to Complain Effectively with Guy Winch

You might associate complaining with negativity, but when used in the right way, complaints can be a powerful tool to improve our relationships, achieve results and effect meaningful change in the world around us. The key is learning how to do it right—which is why we have Guy here to teach us a simple formula to effectively bring up complaints in a way that will encourage positive resolution rather than unhelpful arguments.  If you have issues in your life that are bringing you discomfort, and you’ve previously been reluctant to bring them up with the people involved for fear of starting a conflict, today’s episode will help you negotiate that process with confidence.  Guy’s books have sold millions of copies and been translated into 26 different languages, and his TED Talks have been seen by people all over the world.  In this conversation, we talk about the difference between venting and complaining, how to choose which issues to complain about, and how to avoid a complaining victim mentality. Guy will then explain why it’s important to complain in a constructive way, and take us through a formula you can use to achieve a positive end result from a complaint.  ** Do you want to stay up to date with every new episode and get my brand new Kwik Brain Accelerator Program? How to Have Mental Longevity with Jim Kwik

How to Have Mental Longevity with Jim Kwik

The traditional story about aging is that as we age, we slow down, become trapped in our habits, and forget to play. The good news is that we can avoid this, and we can all learn to use our brains to change our age. Who doesn’t want to live longer? And not only longer, but better?  I’ve talked before on the podcast about the study of nuns published by Time magazine—all of them were living youthfully despite being aged 90 and above—and the secrets to their longevity were their gratitude, faith and their dedication to lifelong learning. They were lifelong learners—just like you and me! In today’s episode, I’ll remind you to schedule time to build your mental fitness, speak about the power of imagination to literally change the way you age, and the importance of retaining playfulness in your life as you grow older. I’ll take you through the 10 steps to healthy aging, and ask you to consider your progress on each step.  ** Do you want to stay up to date with every new episode and get my brand new Kwik Brain Accelerator Program?
