This episode offers insights on cultivating meaningful connections, the power of self-reflection, and the significance of making choices aligned with personal joy and fulfillment.

The Transformative Power of Journaling:

One of the most compelling themes in their conversation is the transformative power of journaling. Unlike typical "dear diary" entries often seen as chores, Alexis introduces journaling as a potent mental health practice. She notes the difference between journaling to record history and journaling to process emotions. This was a crucial shift for Mary, who initially stopped journaling because it felt repetitive and unhelpful.

Alexis shares a breakthrough in redefining journaling for mental health: "I felt so crazy. I had so many emotions... being able to journal, I was able to lay all of that internal mess onto paper and get so much clarity." By discarding the idea of journaling for posterity, she instead uses it as a therapeutic tool. Her journey inspired the creation of a guided journal focused on grief and personal growth, breaking away from the constraints of specific events like divorce or death. As she puts it, journaling allows us to "pull out those deep, dark emotions that need to come out."
