Ep 13: Grand Rounds: Clarifying Confusion: Mechanisms Underlying the Most Common Postoperative Complication in Older Adults: Delirium (Miles Berger)

Recorded on September 29, 2023.

Join us for grand rounds this week where Dr. Miles Berger, a neuroanesthesiologist at Duke University in Durham, North Carolina, presents on postoperative delirium in older adults.

Dr. Miles Berger completed his undergraduate work in biochemistry at Columbia, an MD and PhD (in neuro-endocrinology) at the University of California at San Francisco, and a transitional internship, Anesthesiology Residency and a Neuroanesthesiology faculty fellowship at Duke University School of Medicine. He joined the Duke tenure-track faculty in 2014, and is currently an Associate Professor in the Duke Anesthesiology Department. His research group seeks to understand the mechanisms of perioperative neurocognitive disorders in older adults, and uses a transdisciplinary approach combining EEG, functional/structural MRI, neurocognitive testing and delirium screening, and molecular and cellular assays in both CSF and plasma samples. He is passionate about training the next generation of anesthesiologist-scientists, and serves as co-director of the Duke Anesthesiology Research Track Residency Program. He will be inducted this Fall into the Academy of Research Mentors of the Foundation for Anesthesia Education & Research (FAER).

This episode is part of our abridged Grand Rounds Series, in which highly knowledgeable and sought-after guest speakers present on a multitude of fascinating topics relevant to anesthesia.
