KILLER CASTING PODCAST - Lisa sits down with actress and victim advocate Sarah Ann Masse who came forward in 2017 about the sexual assault she says occured when she interviewed for a nanny job with Harvey Weinstein. Sarah tells me what happened that day at his Connecticut home, and in the years afterwards, the anxiety of staying silent. When she finally did go public, she was further victimized by entertainment industry backlash. Sarah has created an advocacy organization to help other victims and silence breakers from industry retaliation. #450: Interview with Senator Susan Rubio about Changing Domestic Abuse Laws

Laura and Jim interview State Senator Susan Rubio of California who is a fierce advocate for victims of domestic violence, and a champion for children and families who have been left behind by the family court system. She also talks about her own first hand personal experience as a survivor of domestic violence and coercive control. Senator Rubio is responsible for authoring “Piqui’s Law” SB 616 named after a five year little old boy, who was smothered to death by his own father, Aramazd Andressian, in 2017 to get back at his estranged ex-wife. Piqui’s mother, Ana Estevez had begged the courts to protect her and her child, saying her son “was terrified” of his father, but without any physical evidence of abuse, Aramazd was allowed access. “Piqui’s Law”, as well as several others Senator Rubio has put forth, will help change this and protect victims when they are most vulnerable. Do not miss this crucial episode about some of the horrific things going on in family court. #448: Interview with "Victim/Suspect" Reporter Rae de Leon and Director Nancy Schwartzman

We are honored to be joined by Rae de Leon who is the investigative reporter at the heart of the incredible Netflix documentary “Victim/Suspect” which was directed by Nancy Schwartzman who we are also thrilled to be joining us. Rae walks us through her journey digging deeply into this subject of law enforcement turning victims of sexual assault into suspects of “false” reporting. She has some additional shocking details to add about her interview of a certain detective. Nancy talks about the common patterns she has discovered in her many years of chronicling sexual violence — especially the connection between sexual assault, police response and college football culture. #netflix #victimsuspect #sexualassault #believevictims #centerforinvestigativereporting #EmmaMannion #DyanieBermeo #MeganRondini #NikkiYovino #RachelDeLeon #NancySchwartzman #documentary #filmmaker #crime #ExpertAnalysis #FBI #Profilers #NewScotlandYard #CriminalBehaviorAnalysts If you are a victim of sexual assault (in the U.S.) PLEASE call 800.656.HOPE (4673) to be connected with a trained staff member from a sexual assault service provider in your area.https://www.rainn.org/about-national-sexual-assault-telephone-hotlineYou can also find more resources herehttps://www.wannatalkaboutit.comhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JoZaGvTpYTUFollow us and continue the conversationOn Instagramhttps://www.instagram.com/realcrimeprofile/?hl=enOn Twitterhttps://twitter.com/realcrimeprofilOn Facebookhttps://www.facebook.com/realcrimeprofile/>>>>>>>>> SUPPORT OUR OTHER SHOWS <<<<<<<<<<<<<<CRIME ANALYST PODCAST - You’re interested in real crime? #447: “Victim/Suspect” | Part 2

Do you know what the “Reid” technique is or why it is so controversial? In today's episode Jim explains how this high pressure interrogation protocol can be abused by police officers when they are poorly trained and when they have no experience with traumatized sexual assault victims. But Laura wonders if there isn’t something deeper going on when law enforcement tried to turn victims into suspects. She has a theory about something even more insidious at play here. Join us as we continue breaking down the cases in the new Netflix documentary “Victim/Suspect” which follows investigative journalist Rachel de Leon’s tireless search for the truth in several “false” allegations of rape and the consequences for the victims of sexual assault who report to police. #TheTruthWillNotRevealItself#netflix #victimsuspect #sexualassault #believevictims #centerforinvestigativereporting #EmmaMannion #DyanieBermeo #MeganRondini #NikkiYovino #RachelDeLeon #NancySchwartzman #documentary #filmmaker #crime #ExpertAnalysis #FBI #Profilers #NewScotlandYard #CriminalBehaviorAnalysts If you are a victim of sexual assault (in the U.S.) PLEASE call 800.656.HOPE (4673) to be connected with a trained staff member from a sexual assault service provider in your area.https://www.rainn.org/about-national-sexual-assault-telephone-hotlineYou can also find more resources herehttps://www.wannatalkaboutit.comhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JoZaGvTpYTUFollow us and continue the conversationOn Instagramhttps://www.instagram.com/realcrimeprofile/?hl=enOn Twitterhttps://twitter.com/realcrimeprofilOn Facebookhttps://www.facebook.com/realcrimeprofile/>>>>>>>>> SUPPORT OUR OTHER SHOWS <<<<<<<<<<<<<<CRIME ANALYST PODCAST - You’re interested in real crime? In 2015, Emma Mannion, an 18 year old college student at the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa was raped in a parking lot outside of a popular bar. What happened next is almost as shocking as the sexual assault. When Emma went to the police to report this crime, not only did they not believe her, but they arrested her for making a false report. According to the new Netflix documentary “Victim/Suspect” Emma’s case is not an isolated incident. #445: Menendez + Menudo: Boys Betrayed | Part 6

What’s next for Erik and Lyle Mendez who have so far served 33 years of their life sentences without the possibility of parole? Is there a chance for a new trial now that another person, Roy Rossello, has come forward with the accusation that their father Jose Menendez also raped him when he was an underage member of the boy band Menudo? Could this be a new piece of evidence to corroborate the brothers’ story that Jose sexually abused them, a key part of their original defense, which was excluded from their second trial? In the Peacock docu series “Menendez + Menudo: Boys Betrayed”, Roy details how he met Jose Menendez, then the president of RCA records, when Menudo came to New York City to negotiate a record deal. Roy’s recounting of what happened next behind closed doors shocked and infuriated us. Will Roy be able to find justice for himself, and possibly help the Menendez brothers as well? There is still so much to take apart in the Menendez case. In today's episode, we examine the behavior of Jose Menedez. Was he a psychopath? Was he trying to raise two sociopaths in the model of himself? Laura puts a photograph of this father and his sons under a microscope to point out something very disturbing. What about the judge who presided over both 1993 and 1996 trials? There is more to discover about his biases. And finally, what about Kitty, Erik and Lyle's mother? What made this mother, who seemed to be suffering so much herself, incapable of protecting her own children from a monster? #443: Idaho Murders Update

#443: Idaho Murders Update

Laura updates us on the latest developments in the case of the four Idaho college students who were murdered back in November 2022: Ethan Chapin, 20; and roommates Madison Mogen, 21; Xana Kernodle, 20, and Kaylee Goncalves, 21. The prime suspect in their brutal killings has just been arraigned and his behavior during the court proceeding deserves to be discussed. Is there a strategy at play here? Should the gag order be lifted from the case? Should cameras be allowed during the trial? We get into it. #HisNameWasEthanChapin#HerNameWasMadisonMogen#HerNameWasXanaKernodle#HerNameWasKayleeGoncalves#Moscow#Idaho#murder#stalking#Investigation #realcrimeprofile #realcrimeexperts#realcriminalminds#experiencematters#BehaviorMatters >>>>>>>>> SUPPORT OUR OTHER SHOWS <<<<<<<<<<<<<<CRIME ANALYST PODCAST - You’re interested in real crime?
