10 Hard Lessons I Learned Last Year (My Biggest Year) [Business, mindset, entrepreneur, disruptors]

2020 is going to be BIG. But how can we fully start-up, scale-up and challenge ourselves in the New Year if we haven’t learned from the previous year? In today’s episode, Rob shares with you 10 of the biggest, hardest and most challenging lessons learned in 2019 and how it has helped him and his businesses prepare for the year ahead. Discover top lessons, trends, and insights from the Disruptive Entrepreneur himself. If you’re looking to grow your business this year, listen to this episode first. KEY TAKEAWAYS 10 Big, Unusual, Surprising, Challenging & Hard Lessons Learned in 2019 to Prepare us to go Big in 2020. Be careful what you wish for. You should wish for big things to happen in your life, but you should also note that as you do that, do not stay idle, have a strategic plan of how you are going to achieve those big things that you are wishing for. When planning your goals or when planning your year or whatever you want to achieve, you should also plan the challenges you are going to have. So it's like goal setting and fear setting. Goal setting is setting the goals, the fear setting is what will the challenges be? What difficulties might there be? What do we need to plan and prepare for in advance? What could blindside us? With your biggest highs, comes your biggest challenges. With your biggest highs, not only can but comes your biggest challenges, your biggest lows, so you need to be ready for what you can't be ready for. Prepare and plan for the unexpected. Be ready for what you can't be ready for and be prepared for what blindside you. You never know what that is, but at least be ready for it, whatever it will be. Stay patient. They say it takes 10 years to be an overnight success. I'm not sure if it takes that long anymore, but you certainly have to be patient. Do not be distracted by people who are achieving big things, you will also be one of them in a very short time. You can also always outsource and leverage more. What happens is when you get to a certain level of outsourcing and leveraging certain levels of admin, then all you do is take on more, and then you have a high level of responsibility and then you get busy and overwhelmed again, but then you can take on the next level of outsourcing like a marketing manager or someone in sales and then an operations manager and then an MD, and then a CEO, and you become chairman and there's always another level of leverage and outsourcing. So what you find is you outsource stuff, you liberate your time and you think I'm done, but then you either get bored and you distracted and you need more because you need that important feeding, or you want to grow. Every entrepreneur struggles with letting go. It doesn’t matter what level you're at, hiring staff, scaling, getting management in, selling your business, getting help on your brand, developing property projects, media and TV and PR, every entrepreneur even billionaires, they have challenges letting go. You have to ask for help. So many people are struggling alone. They don't have mentors, coaches, they've not done a therapist, they don't talk to people, they're not in the right peer group, it's your responsibility, you can't sit there alone wishing for people to come and save you and support you, you've got to go and find those circles, you've got to get to the networking events, you've got to get in the right property Facebook groups, you've got to take me up on the one to one calls when I do them, you've got to come to the progressive events, you've got to get in the right network and the right circles, have the millionaires locally and take them out for lunch and dinner People. Probably the greatest gift of life is the people that you meet, the experiences you have with people. Our victories are much better when we get to share them and your challenges are much better when you get to have help and share those with other people too. You learn a lot from them, you get inspired by them, you get energy from them. And also, it's really important to hang around with people in your peer group, to hang around with people above you, mentors, successful people, and more experienced in the niche you want to be successful in, but also hang around with people who are less experienced than you that you can help. Realism, the upsides and downsides. Set big but realistic goals that you can be able to achieve. When you set unrealistic goals, you’ll be smacked on the face when life gives you some cold hard realities and difficulties and challenges. What you think you know about people. Stop judging people, stop assuming what you think they think, and start listening and asking. You don't know people until you ask. You do not know what they mean until you ask. Lessons from my therapy. You don't get therapy because you are messed up, some needs need to be met, you need to talk deep enough because some of these things are not addressed by the coach or mentor you have. Get a therapist and do not fear that people will judge you. This helps a lot. You will learn way more about yourself doing therapy than you will in many other areas. BEST MOMENTS “When planning your goals or when planning your year or whatever you want to achieve, you should also plan the challenges you are going to have.” “You can't wish for one without the other.” “Be specific enough with what you wish for and what you plan for.” “Things break when you go big, staff leave, systems break, merchant providers break.” “The bigger you go, the bigger the challenges go.” “It’s really important to be inspired by those who are ahead of you but don't feel like you're not worthy. Be motivated by competition, but don't get distracted by them. Be clear on your vision, your mission, your values, your goals, your journey, your direction, where you're going and stay patient.” “If you don't ask for help, you don't get it.” “Don’t buy into these limitations that other people impose upon you, if it's humanly possible, you can do it and break those limitations.” “The better you know yourself, the better you're equipped with the pursuit that you're on with not worrying about what people will judge you on or criticize you for.” “If you don't risk anything, you risk everything.” [Business, mindset, entrepreneur, disruptors] VALUABLE RESOURCES https://robmoore.com/ bit.ly/Robsupporter https://robmoore.com/podbooks rob.team ABOUT THE HOST Rob Moore is an author of 9 business books, 5 UK bestsellers, holds 3 world records for public speaking, entrepreneur, property investor, and property educator. Author of multiple books including The Parasitic Mind, Dr. Gad Saad draws from his groundbreaking research and lived experience and explains how certain ideas can parasitise our minds and shape our behaviour. His blend of scientific knowledge and honesty challenges us all to examine our thought patterns and societal assumptions while offering practical strategies for maintaining clear thinking in an increasingly complex world. Gad Saad REVEALS: His concept of "suicidal empathy" Why our natural capacity for compassion can become pathologically self-destructive The revolutionary framework of "parasitic ideas," demonstrating how certain thought patterns can hijack our cognitive systems The role of high expectations in achievement, using his own family's approach to education to illustrate how cultural values shape success patterns across generations His analysis of institutional resilience explains why certain academic disciplines maintain stronger connections to reality Why the tendency to internalise success and externalise failure influences both personal development and societal prejudices. How to distinguish authentic conviction from surface-level virtue signalling BEST MOMENTS  "The biggest threat to freedom of speech short of you living in North Korea or under ISIS, is not the institutional obstacles to freedom of speech, but the self inflicted restrictions." "I never modulate a millimetre of what my heart and mind tells me to say, for better or worse, because based on my own code of personal conduct, if I modulate that, then I feel that I'm being fraudulent." "Don't pursue happiness wilfully, rather pursue life with honesty, dignity, and authenticity and the downstream effects as you'll wake up and you say ‘life is good’." "Be a honey badger. What’s next for Katie Price BEST MOMENTS "I've been through it all, and I've come out the other end, and I will never let any man, person, anything ever get me in that state." "I've earned so much, shitloads of money. 100 million? I don't know. I know you want a figure. You're not going to get one." "Put me in a shed in a field, and I'll grow it, the garden, make it an empire again. And that's the kind of person I am, and I am now. I've proved everyone wrong, come out the other end." "I don't trust anyone anymore, which is a shame. It takes a lot for me to get trust from anyone. But how I am sitting here today, I know my worth. I know what I've got to give. And I'm not being a fool anymore." "I definitely am a survivor. I've never asked for sympathy, don't want sympathy and I think what makes you a good person, you go through these situations and you learn from them." "When you earn money, everyone has their little hand in it and it starts off small, then they get greedier and greedier, and that's how they get caught." "I'm misunderstood because the media have created a caricature of me when really, I'm the most down to earth, empathetic, caring person, very giving, very loving."   VALUABLE RESOURCES https://robmoore.com/ bit.ly/Robsupporter   https://robmoore.com/podbooks  rob.team Episode Sponsor - AG1 Claim your exclusive offer of AG1 at the link below drinkag1.com/disruptors ABOUT THE HOST Rob Moore is an author of 9 business books, 5 UK bestsellers, holds 3 world records for public speaking, entrepreneur, property investor, and property educator. Carl Hartley | The Truth About Electric Cars & Inside the Luxury Car Industry

Carl Hartley | The Truth About Electric Cars & Inside the Luxury Car Industry

Rob is joined again by supercar dealer Carl Hartley. Carl reveals the luxury car industry's biggest scams, manufacturer manipulation, and insider secrets. From exposing dealership malpractices to sharing his controversial views on electric cars and the Jaguar rebrand disaster, Carl holds nothing back. He also talks about how he sold 14 cars in one day, shares the story behind his viral police meme, and explains why he'll never sell a Lotus! Carl Hartley REVEALS: Why the electric car revolution is "the biggest scam in the car industry," with Carl explaining why the 2030 target is unrealistic and why infrastructure will never support it. Why manufacturers are increasingly trying to cut out grey market dealers by pricing cars higher initially, changing the industry dynamics. How some dealerships abuse sale-or-return arrangements, secretly using client cars and covering up accidents. That car insurance is essentially a cartel, forcing owners into unfair arrangements and penalising them for others' mistakes. How prestigious brands like Ferrari maintain their exclusivity through deliberate customer selection and strict control measures. Why limited editions aren't always what they seem, manufacturers often create artificial scarcity through marketing rather than genuine rarity. BEST MOMENTS "I had three of the most deadly cars in the world - the Carrera GT, the F40, and the P1. This car drives like you've smacked its kids and shagged its wife." "When you look pro rata, cars have gone up a disgusting amount in what, one new model. Range Rover is the best example in the world. They've literally gone up 70 percent from one model to another." "Look at all the racing drivers that have had motorsport success in Jaguars and the great cars. Steve McQueen used to own Jaguars. The coolest person to ever walk the earth. And now look what they've done." "Money's hard enough to earn and sometimes it's not fun. So when you want to spend it, you want to have fun spending it." "I get more sceptical of someone who walks in with their Dolce Gabbana suit on and their shiny shoes than someone who just walks in dressed casual."   VALUABLE RESOURCES https://robmoore.com/ bit.ly/Robsupporter   https://robmoore.com/podbooks  rob.team Episode Sponsor - AG1 Claim your exclusive offer of AG1 at the link below drinkag1.com/disruptors ABOUT THE HOST Rob Moore is an author of 9 business books, 5 UK bestsellers, holds 3 world records for public speaking, entrepreneur, property investor, and property educator. Why psychopaths tend to rise to positions of power BEST MOMENTS "I think football should be free from any of those kind of campaigns. Keep it out of sport. If you want to campaign for that stuff, do it on your own time, but don't infiltrate sports to be able to do it." "I've always felt like there is a backlash coming and there I always feel like there are so many more good people on this planet than there are bad and eventually that will win over." "When you're taxed when you buy, taxed when you sell, taxed when you're alive and taxed when you're dead - our government is basically discouraging people from actually growing our country." "I would say there are probably people who like to have control over human beings, psychopaths, I think if they destroy the country enough, there'll be people begging for help from their government." "The stuff about free speech is that you are free to offend people. Now, you can't give offence to people. You can't offend somebody. Somebody can only take offence."  "One of the greatest things we can have while we're on this planet is the human connection and making connections with different people from different walks of life and enjoying other people's company." "Between taxes and currency debasement, more than 50 per cent of everything you ever own will be taken from you from the government... It's 50 per cent relentlessly throughout your whole life.” "Libertarianism has become the belief system of the internet. But it hasn't actually taken hold in the real world yet because the way political systems are, it can't take hold." "The problem with government and so much of the way modern businesses run is all spreadsheet based... but actually you need this sort of accidental stuff and you have that in free markets and capitalism because it's just built in." "You look at why people don't have families, why they have kids later in life, the most commonly given reason is expense...
