Sharon Carpenter: Broadcast Journalist, Producer & Entrepreneur [Business, mindset, entrepreneur, disruptors]

Rob is joined by British broadcast journalist, producer and entrepreneur Sharon Carpenter. Sharon answers questions on how she got to be where she is today and what she has planned for the future. Sharon shares exclusive stories from working as a broadcaster in America to how she manages to balance her personal and professional life. Tune in today for this captivating interview with industry legend, Sharon Carpenter. KEY TAKEAWAYS When people who do not know you, ask what you do for a living what do you tell them? The first thing I tell them is that I am a broadcast journalist, that is because that is where I started out in more of the news side of things and then I moved over to the entertainment side of things, still as a journalist. Now I do so many different things, I am a presenter, a quiz show host, a producer. Does that make you an entrepreneur of sorts? Yes, it does. I have my own business called Carpenter Media and most of the work I do through that, I also create and develop television shows through that brand as well. Do you find it hard to have a relationship as an entrepreneur? It is hard, and I have definitely been in that situation, I do get very caught up with work so sometimes I do forget about the person I am with. I remember I was working on a presentation for a TV show that we eventually ended up selling to MTV. We were working around the clock and sometimes my boyfriend would notice that I was active on social media but was not replying to his posts, he didn’t understand that for me, social media also work. When you’re in that environment you have to be laser-focused. Sometimes there is just so much going on, your mind is so full that you’re not even thinking about that. I will say that I am understanding because of that, and I think it takes a certain type of person to be with someone in that mindset, that is really driven and wants to be successful. You really have to think about what is important to you, I do know people that have been all work focused and then they get to a point when they are like ‘oh I wish I had a family’ and they didn’t make time for that. Do you feel like you were able to stay true to yourself working in the media? When I first got into the industry, I was first a producer but I had dreams of being on camera. I remember talking to this big-time executive and he said to me “Oh so you want to be on TV?” to which I replied “Yes, it is a dream I have” he then told me “Well your English accent is a distraction!” I was devastated, I had also got a new agent who told me that maybe I should lose the accent and learn to speak with an American accent. I had to think to myself, is that really being me? If I was to go onto a station and start speaking with an American accent, that's not really real. I was trying to figure out, I’m English am I ever going to make it? I then remember going to see Sting perform, he was performing “English man in New York” and there's a line in the song “be yourself no matter what they say” and that's when I decided I was going to be myself no matter what they said! How do you deal with putting yourself out there on social media, without worrying about getting hate? You sort of has to get to a place where you don’t care. You need to build up your confidence, and to build up your confidence it is all about being good at different things. It has always been important to me to excel at things and produce good quality work, no matter what it is. All of that builds confidence, and the more the hate received will just become water off a duck's back. If you read something, don’t take it too much to heart, read it in a constructive way and take it in the best possible way. After getting so many comments, it has definitely helped me get a tough skin, what does it really matter? Not everybody is going to like you. Q.What is the best advice you have ever received? The best advice I have ever received was actually something that I heard somebody say. It was Anderson Cooper who said this in an interview “work harder than the rest, outwork everybody. Yes, talent is a certain part of it but really it's the amount of work you put in”. Q.What is the worst advice you've ever received? Learn to speak with an American accent! Although it could've been good advice actually. There are a couple of times where it could have been good for me to be able to do that, there is a sitcom and they were casting for a journalist in a small-town America. They really liked me but they asked me to do an American accent and that would have been okay as that's acting. So I sent them a self-tape and it was so bad! However, that's one occasion where that could have been okay to do. Q.What advice would you give to your 50-year-old self? I think what I would say to my 50-year-old self is “it’s never too late.” I think that's the big piece of advice if there's something that you’ve always really wanted to do it doesn't matter what anybody else thinks. It doesn’t matter if people are out there saying ‘oh you’re too old for that’ no, go for it and make it happen! When you’re 50 your dreams are going to be different than what your dreams are now, keep on dreaming up until the end. What does the word disruptive mean to you? I think that I am a bit disruptive if I am honest. It is shaking things up, not playing by the rules, it is doing things your way and adding some spice, sass and some sauce. BEST MOMENTS “Yes you can polish up, yes you can work on being the best version of yourself, but it really is about being true to who you are” “Look back on your own work, and make sure that you’re happy with where you’re going” “Make the most out of life, no matter what age you are” [Business, mindset, entrepreneur, disruptors] VALUABLE RESOURCES https://robmoore.com/ bit.ly/Robsupporter https://robmoore.com/podbooks rob.team ABOUT THE HOST Rob Moore is an author of 9 business books, 5 UK bestsellers, holds 3 world records for public speaking, entrepreneur, property investor, and property educator. RANT: Billionaires & Huge Corps DO Pay Taxes (Facts)... [Business, mindset, entrepreneur, disruptors]

People are selling their dreams by complaining about others. Rob has had an influx of comments recently saying that big corps do not pay tax, but this simply isn’t true! Listen in to this episode to hear why people need to stop whining about billionaires and millionaires are start to look closer to home! If there is something you are really passionate about then you can start to advocate for change in policies, you can also start to do something yourself. There are so many different types of tax, it’s not as simple as looking at what percentage corporation tax big companies pay. If you want to have a happy life then you need to learn how to be happy with money. Stop making it the enemy and leverage it to your benefit.   BEST MOMENTS  “You can do this research yourself, it’s really easy” “Use it to be the change you want to see in the word…be the Robin Hood of tax!” “You have to make your money important to you if you want a good life”   [Business, mindset, entrepreneur, disruptors] VALUABLE RESOURCES https://robmoore.com/ bit.ly/Robsupporter   https://robmoore.com/podbooks  rob.team ABOUT THE HOST Rob Moore is an author of 9 business books, 5 UK bestsellers, holds 3 world records for public speaking, entrepreneur, property investor, and property educator. How to Find, Action & Master The Greatest Opportunities (LIVE) [Business, mindset, entrepreneur, disruptors]

How to Find, Action & Master The Greatest Opportunities (LIVE) [Business, mindset, entrepreneur, disruptors]

There are a lot of people online who are really upset at the moment; at Rob and at the world in general. Rob believes that these people don’t understand the power of the opportunities out there, it’s almost too much to focus on. Listen into this episode to hear Rob talk about why this is and what you can do to avoid the overwhelm and make the most of this new world we live in. Secret Leaders Podcast Listen Now https://podcasts.apple.com/gb/podcast/secret-leaders/id1229438369Learn what it’s really like to be a top entrepreneur and how to get there from founders of startups like Monzo, BrewDog, Jo Malone, Slack, and Lastminute.com   KEY TAKEAWAYS  There is power to p**sing people off! If you can utilise the right things to ‘hack’ virality as well as get people a bit angry then it’s a sure way to become truly viral. You need to be ok with having critics and be grateful for your haters. Learn to truly be yourself. Stop watering yourself down because you worry about being disliked. If you can be truly yourself and own it then there will be no end to success, in your personal brand and in your life. Commit to 30 minutes a day to create either one or two pieces of ‘asset’ content. You can then leverage your time effectively and create ever-green, ever-lasting content you can use over and over again. The influencer 3.0 is the content creator. These influencers are expressing their passion via content and making a lot of money via the creator economy. The margin on an information business can be huge. Anyone with knowledge and experience can do it and don’t have to spend much to get started. They just need to start turning information into income.   BEST MOMENTS  “Now more than ever you can turn your passion into your profession” “Yeah but I’m f**king rich” “Without my haters people aren’t talking about me” “Omnipresence is the illusion that you are everywhere”   [Business, mindset, entrepreneur, disruptors] VALUABLE RESOURCES https://robmoore.com/ bit.ly/Robsupporter   https://robmoore.com/podbooks  rob.team ABOUT THE HOST Rob Moore is an author of 9 business books, 5 UK bestsellers, holds 3 world records for public speaking, entrepreneur, property investor, and property educator. You Do NOT Have to Get Up at 5am! [Business, mindset, entrepreneur, disruptors]

You Do NOT Have to Get Up at 5am! [Business, mindset, entrepreneur, disruptors]

You don't have to get at 5am to be a successful person! Many people that say they do this don’t actually do it or make the most of the extra time. Listen in to this quick episode to hear Rob bust this myth and why getting up at 5am isn’t the answer, routine is. Secret Leaders Podcast Listen Now https://podcasts.apple.com/gb/podcast/secret-leaders/id1229438369Learn what it’s really like to be a top entrepreneur and how to get there from founders of startups like Monzo, BrewDog, Jo Malone, Slack, and Lastminute.com   KEY TAKEAWAYS  Of course we all need sleep, you don’t need to read a book or listen to a scientist to know this. If people want to get up early that is fine, but you don’t need to preach it to others.  Everyone has different circadian rhythms; some people perform and work better at night. Test what works for you and build a consistent routine.   BEST MOMENTS  “If you don’t sleep enough and you get up really late and go to bed really late you will ruin the next day and the next day and probably kill yourself” “Don’t do it because society and the world is telling you that’s what you should do”   [Business, mindset, entrepreneur, disruptors] VALUABLE RESOURCES https://robmoore.com/ bit.ly/Robsupporter   https://robmoore.com/podbooks  rob.team ABOUT THE HOST Rob Moore is an author of 9 business books, 5 UK bestsellers, holds 3 world records for public speaking, entrepreneur, property investor, and property educator. Recurring Income: The More You Unlearn The More You Earn [Business, mindset, entrepreneur, disruptors]

Recurring Income: The More You Unlearn The More You Earn [Business, mindset, entrepreneur, disruptors]

Join Rob today as he talks about how to create sustainable recurring income. Including, how to break bad habits, what rules to ignore and what ones to follow and how to appreciate wealth in terms of your wellbeing as well as finance! Secret Leaders Podcast Listen Now https://podcasts.apple.com/gb/podcast/secret-leaders/id1229438369Learn what it’s really like to be a top entrepreneur and how to get there from founders of startups like Monzo, BrewDog, Jo Malone, Slack, and Lastminute.com KEY TAKEAWAYS  If you can break bad habits, including emotionally spending and how to invest your cash, this will help you sustain and grow your income. People often separate finance and wellbeing but they are intrinsically linked. You don’t have to focus on one or the other, you can work on both at the same time. Money alone won’t buy you happiness, but it certainly helps. You become those around you, spend time with those you want to be, those who share the values you do, especially around money and finance. This will impact your own personal happiness and wealth. Stop relying on one single income source. This makes you vulnerable to the disruptive world we live in. Money is an enabler and exaggerates who you already are. If you have money and are already giving you will give more, if you like cars and get more money you will probably buy more cars! Money is a tool, it creates and does what you want it to. The law of gratitude means you get more of what you are grateful for. What you appreciate, grows, so focus on the things you want to grow-start investing and gaining assets. Rob believes the secret to life is facing your fears. We all have the 'what ifs', fears and 'I shouldn’ts'. But what if you were authentically yourself? Imagine what you could create and what impact you could have on the world. BEST MOMENTS  “The more you earn the longer you live” “Invest a third, save a third and spend a third” “Money is a measure, is a store of value…it’s not a basta*d, it cannot change you” “What you appreciate, appreciates” "I'm not going to live my life for those 2%...I'm going to have fun" [Business, mindset, entrepreneur, disruptors] VALUABLE RESOURCES https://robmoore.com/ bit.ly/Robsupporter   https://robmoore.com/podbooks  rob.team ABOUT THE HOST Rob Moore is an author of 9 business books, 5 UK bestsellers, holds 3 world records for public speaking, entrepreneur, property investor, and property educator. The NEW NORMAL- Social Media De-Centralisation [Business, mindset, entrepreneur, disruptors]

The NEW NORMAL- Social Media De-Centralisation [Business, mindset, entrepreneur, disruptors]

We are now in the age of decentralisation of social media, just  5-7 years ago there were just a handful of big social media platforms we all used. Now there are more challengers emerging, such as tiktok and clubhouse. Listen in to this podcast with Rob to hear all about this in detail and how you can actually use it to leverage your social media game. Secret Leaders Podcast Listen Now https://podcasts.apple.com/gb/podcast/secret-leaders/id1229438369Learn what it’s really like to be a top entrepreneur and how to get there from founders of startups like Monzo, BrewDog, Jo Malone, Slack, and Lastminute.com   KEY TAKEAWAYS  The amount of social media channels ‘within’ channels, such as lives within Facebook and reels within Instagram can feel overwhelming. But it’s not if you break it down, it actually gives you more opportunities. It’s easier now than it has ever been to go viral, you just have to work smart. Learn what works and utilise other peoples success to your benefit. It’s no longer as important to have a massive following, it’s not a followers numbers game anymore. What matters I regular content posting, consistency, learning from your analytics, testing new styles and learning from influencers. Social media platforms now compete for creators and creators earn money this way. This is the new influencer revolution.   BEST MOMENTS  “That can be really overwhelming but it can mean you have way more viral-ity” “You don’t need a massive amount of followers”   [Business, mindset, entrepreneur, disruptors] VALUABLE RESOURCES https://robmoore.com/ bit.ly/Robsupporter   https://robmoore.com/podbooks  rob.team ABOUT THE HOST Rob Moore is an author of 9 business books, 5 UK bestsellers, holds 3 world records for public speaking, entrepreneur, property investor, and property educator. Sounds too good to be true, but this time it isn’t! In this episode, Rob tells you how to leverage consumerism in the right way and how investing in the right brans can actually make you money! If you spend your money on the right material items, that are classed as assets, they can actually create you more money and in some cases a regular income, such as buy to lets for example. Anything you want in your life…work out how much recurring income you need to pay for it, then use capital of yours or other peoples to buy assets to create reoccurring income.   BEST MOMENTS  “Most material items you buy depreciate in value” “You can start without any income, my first 100 deals were no money down”   [Business, mindset, entrepreneur, disruptors] VALUABLE RESOURCES https://robmoore.com/ bit.ly/Robsupporter   https://robmoore.com/podbooks  rob.team ABOUT THE HOST Rob Moore is an author of 9 business books, 5 UK bestsellers, holds 3 world records for public speaking, entrepreneur, property investor, and property educator.
