110: Fixing your Mental Health - Ross Jackson-Hicks - Co Founder Man Down Cornwall

Ross Jackson-HicksRoss Jackson-Hicks has battled anxiety since being diagnosed with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) as a child.Ross, who runs Rudi's hair salon, came up with an idea where men would be able to talk in a safe space. There is a toxic masculinity stigma where men are supposed to be viewed as macho men - and as a result Man Down was formed. Man down is a support group for men based in cornwall with mental health concerns. A very relaxed, very informal and non judgmental space where men can come along and not feel vulnerable taking about how they have been feeling recently.ABOUT THE HOSTMy name is Sam Harris. It can be so easy for us to take our mental health for granted and seem like a big of a task to do so, but in reality it’s not.Mental health awareness is great, but action is essential. Raising awareness of mental health problems should be the start of the process of tackling them, not the end. Whether we are living with a mental illness or not, being mentally healthy and living well is important to every single one of us. SyncifyAn app that lets you be social at a distance. Viktor FranklLove yourself enough to know what helps you grow and to love yourself means to accept yourself as you are at the same time you come to terms with those aspects of yourself that you cannot change.Prevent self-sabotage by setting loving boundaries. As your self-love expands, so will your ability to identify what is and isn’t good for you. You’ll gain the clarity you need to understand what you will and will not accept in your life.Self-love is about connecting to your innermost needs, celebrating the freedom of being you, and honoring who you truly are while dropping your destructive patterns.Be mentally toughIncreased mental toughness is the key to performing at your peak. Being mentally tough helps you manage your thoughts, regulate your emotions, and behave productively.Mental toughness gives you power to work hard and always move forward because you know how to deal with difficult situations and overcome them. We all possess mental strength, just to different degrees. If we train ourselves to be more mentally tough we will be able to reach our goals and become successful.Exercise empathyPeople who are empathic are active listeners. If you want to see into the hearts of others, your first task is to hear their stories. Empathy is important because it helps us understand how others are feeling so we can respond appropriately to the situation.See things from their perspective, and imagine yourself in their place. Essentially, empathy is putting yourself in someone else's position and feeling what they must be feeling as it compels us to take action to relieve another person's suffering.Subscribe! If you enjoyed the podcast please subscribe and rate it.
