The Chris Voss Show Podcast – The Good-Enough Life by Avram Alpert

The Good-Enough Life by Avram Alpert How an acceptance of our limitations can lead to a more fulfilling life and a more harmonious society We live in a world oriented toward greatness, one in which we feel compelled to be among the wealthiest, most powerful, and most famous. This book explains why no one truly benefits from this competitive social order, and reveals how another way of life is possible―a good-enough life for all. Avram Alpert shows how our obsession with greatness results in stress and anxiety, damage to our relationships, widespread political and economic inequality, and destruction of the natural world. He describes how to move beyond greatness to create a society in which everyone flourishes. By competing less with each other, each of us can find renewed meaning and purpose, have our material and emotional needs met, and begin to lead more leisurely lives. Alpert makes no false utopian promises, however. Life can never be more than good enough because there will always be accidents and tragedies beyond our control, which is why we must stop dividing the world into winners and losers and ensure that there is a fair share of decency and sufficiency to go around. Visionary and provocative, The Good-Enough Life demonstrates how we can work together to cultivate a good-enough life for all instead of tearing ourselves apart in a race to the top of the social pyramid.

The Chris Voss Show Podcast – Design Empathy and Contextual Awareness: Frames of Reference for the 21st Century Creative by Wayne K. Li

The Chris Voss Show Podcast – Design Empathy and Contextual Awareness: Frames of Reference for the 21st Century Creative by Wayne K. Li

Design Empathy and Contextual Awareness: Frames of Reference for the 21st Century Creative by Wayne K. Li https://www.amazon.com/Design-Empathy-Contextual-Awareness-Reference/dp/1529438217 https://id.gatech.edu/people/wayne-li One of the biggest challenges facing designers across all fields is not simply in the design of the product or service itself, but rather how to arrive at a design solution that resonates with a target audience, that will have a higher than likely chance at market adoption, and that will avoid negatively impacting society or the environment. What are the skills that can be employed by a student or young professional creative early on that enable them to identify the issues at work and address them? By understanding design from human-centered perspectives - both from the customer's and the producer's point of view - innovative, resonant designs are possible. Design Empathy and Contextual Awareness demystifies the "fuzzy" front end of the design process, where research methods mix with business trends and marketing. The accessible, authoritative text presents design as neither merely a "trade" skill nor an exercise in personal creative vision, but rather the application of multiple mindsets and practices, built around a process of alternating points of view (or "frames"). As well as covering theory and process, this visually engaging book also provides real-life business examples and applicable templates to help designers hone their empathy and contextual awareness in order to more directly and efficiently achieve successful design outcomes. Chapters cover: Laying a foundation: design as a whole-brain activity Design behaviors: design as a whole-life activity Empathy: cognitive and emotional empathy, and compassionate concern Contextual awareness: cultivating your designer's sixth senseAbout the author Wayne K. Li is the James L. Oliver Professor, holding a joint position between the Colleges of Design and Engineering at Georgia Institute of Technology. He leads joint teaching initiatives and advances interdisciplinary collaboration between mechanical engineering and industrial design through classes and the Innovation and Design Collaborative, also known as the "Design Bloc," while also serving as a principal design consultant at Wayne Li Design. Li's research areas include ethnographic research, multidisciplinary education, and human-machine interaction in transportation design. His career spans industry and academia. Li has led innovation and market expansion for Pottery Barn seasonal home products, taught in Stanford University's design program, led interface development at Volkswagen of America's Electronics Research Laboratory, and developed corporate brand and vehicle differentiation strategies at Ford Motor Company. He has also worked as a product designer at IDEO Product Development. Li holds a Master of Science in Engineering from Stanford University, and undergraduate degrees in Fine Arts (Design) and Mechanical Engineering from the University of Texas at Austin.

The Chris Voss Show Podcast – THE THIRD HEAVEN: and the unutterable things that can now be told by Jim Strahan

THE THIRD HEAVEN: and the unutterable things that can now be told by Jim Strahan https://www.amazon.com/THIRD-HEAVEN-unutterable-things-that/dp/B0CXQ56SGY Jimstrahanbooks.com Jim Strahan: In this book, I will demonstrate how the writings of Moses, John, and Paul, speak to three resurrections, and I will connect them to Paul’s experience when he was caught up to the third heaven. I will also present twenty-one other scriptural references that reveal how this underlying pattern of “threes” spans from Genesis to Revelation. Dr. David Konstan, professor of Classics at NYU following three decades at Brown: You know that what you have to say is important, and you invite your reader to carry on a dialogue. You defend the idea of a third resurrection with due citation of texts, and make a very strong case for it. Boyd Purcell, PHD: I am highly impressed with Jim Strahan’s ability to logically and systematically analyze The Holy Bible in depth, from historical, mathematical, and scientific perspectives. Even if readers do not agree with this author on the three resurrections and the third heaven, they can learn a lot by carefully reading and studying this book, seeing that the Bible is even more symbolic than what they may have ever heard or thought. Michael Riley, Electrical Engineer, and co-author of “Is God Fair? What about Gandhi?”: To the prospective reader, I would like to encourage you to drink deeply from the ideas and arguments in Jim’s book, for you have likely never heard or seen them before–a merging of Scriptures into a belief that today’s Christianity in general, not only does not teach, but likely has never even considered. The number three appears predominantly throughout Scripture. In this amazing book, you will learn of a novel use of this number that explains Paul’s use of the phrase, “each man in his own order.” Intrigued? Well, the answer this book gives is a solid and meaningful explanation of it. And there is more, much more. May you enjoy the exploration.

The Chris Voss Show Podcast – Joshua: Slave, Understudy, Warrior, Spy, Successor, Conqueror, and Ruler by Louis McCall

Joshua: Slave, Understudy, Warrior, Spy, Successor, Conqueror, and Ruler by Louis McCall Louismccallinternational.com https://www.amazon.com/Joshua-Understudy-Warrior-Successor-Conqueror/dp/B0DGDDY2ZV Joshua is the story of an underdog. His amazing arc of development saw his remarkable rise from the slave pits of Egypt to the pinnacle of triumphantly leading three million former slaves and their descendants into the promised land of Canaan. He had an intimate relationship with God. It showed what God could do. During a 40-year apprenticeship under Moses, Joshua rose from being a slave under the whip of his Egyptian masters to being a prince of his tribe in Israel. He became Israel's first military Field Marshal. Joshua ascended Mount Sinai with Moses, saw God, and heard the voice of God with his natural ears. As Moses neared the end of his natural life, God directed Moses to choose and publicly ordain Joshua as his successor, rather than one of his own two sons or anyone else. Then Joshua went on to see God perform physical miracles for him on a par with what God did for Moses, defying the laws of nature and physics. Miracles of this magnitude did not occur again until 1,400 years later when Jesus Christ walked the earth in the flesh as God and man. Joshua ruled, not as a king, but as the intermediary for God's theocratic governance of the descendants of Israel. Joshua's final work was driving the pagan nations God abhorred out of the promised land of Canaan, including subduing the progeny of a race of giants, and then distributing the land among the tribes of Israel. Being advised by God of his approaching transition from life to death, Joshua assembled the nation, recounted all that God had brought them through and then charged them to serve God or come under a curse that he himself pronounced, before they could eventually be restored.
