Terra Newell Part 2

Terra Newell Part 2

You may know Terra's name from the podcast or Netflix series titled Dirty John. Basically, Terra's mom, Debra, began dating a man named John Meehan, who wasn't who he presented himself to be, and things got very dangerous very quickly. The result was Meehan attacking Debra's daughter, Terra, in the parking garage of her apartment complex, where he began stabbing her. But Terra was able to get the knife and ended up killing Meehan in self-defense. Terra's story has been told by so many different people over the years... But like so many of the survivors and family members we speak to on this show, Terra saw some major issues within the true crime entertainment industry and began telling her story in her own words as well as helping others do the same. I was actually on Terra's podcast, Time Out with Terra, years ago to talk about Alissa. But since then, she and friend of the show, Collier Landry, created The Survivor Squad podcast. I've known Terra for years, but as we discuss, conversations like these aren't exactly casual ones to have with friends over drinks, so this is the first time we've really sat down and talked about everything. If you haven’t listened to part one, go back and listen to that first, or this is not going to make any sense. In part one, Terra discussed the events leading up to her attack. In our second and final episode, Terra is going to explain the aftermath of that attack. She describes what it was like being in the hospital, being treated as a potential perpetrator, and seeing her story in the media. Then we dive into Terra reclaiming her story; of course, we touch on ethics in the true crime entertainment industry, calling people out, and I share some details about my own experiences you may have never heard before. This is an honest conversation between two friends who have seen the good and bad in this industry.
