Starting from their first 3.5 hectares of vineyard purchased with the house where the family still lives today, the two "Teste Dure" grow their own grapes on 50 hectares of vineyards in the Valpolicella Classica and 5 hectares in Lugana, these have been organically run since 2019. A strong passion leads Alfredo and Mariano Buglioni to produce distinctive and elegant wines with native Valpolicella grapes alongside some more unusual and almost forgotten ones to highlight the authentic character of the territory. These wines express an individuality also sold in 5 experience places in Verona and Valpolicella, where different cuisines enhance each label. You can try typical “cicchetti” in Osteria del Bugiardo, grilled meat in Locanda Buglioni or at Ciccia Bistrot and seafood in Piscaria. Buglioni has also designed spaces to enjoy a relaxing break among his vineyards and olive trees in the Dimora or visitors can stay within the city of Verona at one of their apartments. Ep. 545 Pierre Jean Monnoyer | Monty Waldin

Ep. 545 Pierre Jean Monnoyer | Monty Waldin

Italian Wine Podcast Episode 545 Monty Waldin chats with Pierre Jean Monnoyer of Casa Raia Winery in Montalcino, Italy Casa Raia sits on a promontory beneath the famed medieval town of Montalcino in Tuscany. This estate saw the first roots of the Sangiovese vine labouring through inhospitable rock centuries ago. Destiny seemed to play a role in Ludmilla Temertey’s adventures while searching for a home in Tuscany. She enlisted the help of a Hermit who had walked every path that ever was created in the region to find her haven and destiny brought her back to Montalcino where she had first come in 1978. In 1997 the abandoned farm house was lovingly restored and named Casa Raia after the matriarch of the family, Raissa Temertey. n 2006, Ludmilla’s daughter Kalyna Temertey Canta and her husband Pierre Jean Monnoyer took over the care of the vineyards and created the winery that is now Azienda Agricola Casa Raia. They restored the old vineyards with unyielding respect for the land that so generously nurtures us all. Espousing a philosophy that is best described as “the vine determines the wine”, Pierre Jean is producing natural wines that are an expression of a deep commitment to the production of authentic, quality wines. Ep. 541 Stephanie Biondi | Voices

Ep. 541 Stephanie Biondi | Voices

Italian Wine Podcast episode 541 Rebecca Lawrence sits down with Stephanie Biondi in this new episode of "Voices", the segment where we shed light on some of the less-discussed issues in the wine world. Stephanie Biondi of the Biondi Winery: Although the winery was established at the end of the 19th Century, the Biondi family have owned the vineyards since the 1600s. Maximum production was reached during the period between the two World Wars, Since 1999, Stephanie and husband Ciro have taken over both the upkeep of the vineyards and the winemaking. They have succeeded in restoring the 6 hectares owned by the family, leading to the birth of Outis and the production of high-quality wines, whilst rediscovering the enormous potential of the volcanic ‘terroir’ and its indigenous grape varietals. The three terraced vineyards which make up the 6 hectares are planted with traditional Albarello vines on the South-East facing slopes of Mount Etna, in the comune of Trecastagni, approximately 18 km from Catania. Vigna Chianta lies at an altitude of between 600 to 700 m.a.s.l. on a crater dating back to 125 BC and while there are still some old Nerello vines, the white grape varietals Carricante, Catarrato and Minella make up most of the production. Vigna Cisterna Fuori planted on the same crater, but with a different aspect, produces predominantly Nerello Mascalese and Cappuccio. Last, but by no means least, Vigna San Nicolò lies on a crater dating back 12,000 years and produces exclusively Nerello. Ep. 540 Daniele Proietti of Abbia Nòva Winery Part 2 | Monty Interviews

Ep. 540 Daniele Proietti of Abbia Nòva Winery Part 2 | Monty Interviews

Italian Wine Podcast Episode 540 Part 2 Monty Waldin continues his chat with Daniele Proietti, of Abbia Nòva Winery, to know more about their natural agricultural approach. We come from humble farming families. We have a natural agricultural approach, often quite personal, in constant flux, that reflects who we are: a fusion of local traditions and of something that is deeply cultural, that we’ve built from the teachings and influences of the many natural methods that we’ve experimented through the years. Maybe because our grandparents handed over their hoe to our right hand and a metaphorical library to the other, that we’ve used to deepen the various agricultural approaches, treasure them and fuse them with our own. That hoe represents the viticultural tradition of Piglio, which has existed for two thousand years, on volcanic soils, with obsessive care for plants and vineyards that have always coexisted with gardens, fruit trees and animals. Our cellar is a small country house in the mountains, on the consular Roman road that took from Lazio to Abruzzo, two rooms with amphoras, concrete, wood and demijohn glass jugs. Our only tools, coordinated only by our heads and hands. Italian Wine Podcast ep. 539: Get US Market Ready with Italian Wine People. Steve Raye sits down with Nicole Brassard. In her role, Jordan is responsible for conceptualizing and implementing industry-leading strategies to increase sales throughout the state’s 76 NH Liquor & Wine Outlet locations and off-premise channels. She previously was the first female to serve as Director of Sales, Marketing, Merchandising, and Warehousing and still oversees those areas of the business. Under Jordan’s leadership, NHLC has received numerous accolades, including an “A rating” for consumer access to wine by The American Wine Consumer Coalition and was named “The Best State in America for wine drinkers” by the Washington Post. Most recently, NHLC was honored as the nation’s top control state by StateWays Magazine, which recognized New Hampshire for its innovative programs and focus on responsible consumption. Jordan began her career in the food industry working in restaurants and a private retail shop. Jordan joined NHLC in 1988 as a retail store clerk. Eventually she was promoted to assistant manager and then store manager at one of NHLC’s signature NH Liquor & Wine Outlet locations. Prior to her current position, Jordan served for 13 years as NHLC’s wine marketing specialist, where she steadily grew NHLC’s wine sales to 44 percent of the overall business. Jordan played a key role in establishing New Hampshire Wine Week, a customer-focused, week-long celebration of wine that draws more than 60 of the world’s leading winemakers to New Hampshire each January to participate in intimate wine dinners, bottle-signings and tasting events. The week culminates with the largest wine tasting event north of Boston, the Winter Wine Spectacular, which has drawn thousands of guests and raised nearly $2 million for charity over the last 14 years. Outside of work, Jordan is an avid cyclist, runner and community volunteer. She and her husband David enjoy renovating their 1900 New Englander home in Manchester.
