The "Problematic" Frank Lloyd Wright Monument | Demolishing America's First Modern Office Building

The Larkin Building was an office building in Buffalo, New York, noted for innovations that included central air conditioning, built-in desk furniture, and suspended toilet partitions and bowls. Located at 680 Seneca Street, it was demolished in 1950. Designed in 1903 by Frank Lloyd Wright and built in 1904-1906 for the Larkin Soap Company, the five-story dark-red brick building used a pink-tinted mortar and steel-frame construction. Sculptor Richard Bock provided ornamentation for the building. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
