Ep. 37 Black Mothers Speak w/ Jahala Walker and Anna Creighton

Listen in as Lesley and Jalisa chat with two black mothers from the community on their journey into motherhood and their stories of self-advocacy.

Anna Creighton: Anna Creighton is a proud practicing mother to two brilliant daughter's, ages one and three. She is a divine wife and partner to an impassioned husband and father, whom she's been married to for nearly 5 years and together with for 15 years. As a family they enjoy outdoor adventures, going to the family farm, practicing yoga, cooking, talking, making puzzle soup, and dancing endlessly to Girl on Fire by Alicia Keys. In the fall, Anna will begin her journey in nursing school with the goal of working in labor and delivery following graduation.

Jahala Walker:

Growing up with family members that had health issues that cause pain and swelling, massage was a normal occurrence in our home. My grandmother said I had "healing hands." It is second nature to me, a natural gift.Through using therapeutic touch and various modalities, I facilitate the healing process within the body, promote muscle relaxation, and stress management. I believe in the healing power of touch and its capability, and plan to incorporate this skill in helping individuals physically, mentally, and spiritually. In the words of Albert Einstein, I truly stand by his statement: "A human being is a part of the whole called by us universe, a part limited in time and space. He experiences himself, his thoughts and feeling as something separated from the rest, a kind of optical delusion of his consciousness. This delusion is a kind of prison for us, restricting us to our personal desires and to affection for a few persons nearest to us. Our task must be to free ourselves from this prison by widening our circle of compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole of nature in its beauty."
