Are You Honest With Yourself? | Episode 180
What is your purpose? What is your passion? What does financial freedom look like for you? You want to find something that gives you JOY. Something that gives you satisfaction every single time you go to work. Being able to help people FEEL is something that most stylists can relate to. When it comes to your marketing, where people miss the mark the most is when you’re posting pretty hair, but it's not just about pretty hair. … You want to make sure you are real and you are showing who you are. Honesty is KEY. Yes you want to make sure you’re posting your work, but you want to make sure you are showcasing the real & the raw stuff so that people know your story. So that people know that they can connect with you & you’re a REAL person. A lot of us know that we want more, but we are for some reason waiting for permission to create inside of your life. Outside of waiting for permission there is something else that we are also notorious for… Avoiding conflict. The willingness to collide, the willingness to have hard conversations, and to not avoid difficult things… Is going to allow you to stand in your power. There are going to be people in your life that are just no longer a good fit to be there any more. You actually are doing them a favor by letting them free. You will be doing both of you a disservice by allowing them to stay in your life, just to avoid conflict. It's hard to let people go, but the more you grow & the outcome on the other side is so much more rewarding. It's not about coming to a class and getting a certificate anymore. It's about Commitment . accountability. You have to expose emotion You have to expose your true self. It all starts with being honest with yourself. We are promising something different. It's Easier to Keep Up Than Catch Up | Episode 179
On this week's episode of the BMS® Podcast, Danielle welcomes Licensed NBR® Artist, Brette Cody on the show! This week they tackle the topic of consistency and how it's easier to keep up than to catch up! How many times do you find that you lose momentum and then you have to start over at the beginning? Over & over again. There is a false illusion that you’re “BUSY,” but you’re actually not progressing. You still don’t have time for anything else, you still are not actually hitting the next level because you are not committing to progressing. You keep having to start over at the beginning, all because you are not staying consistent. So don't get stuck in the mindset that everything has to be perfect. That is the worst place that you can be! Nothing is going to be perfect. Of course, there are some days when you hit your goals out of the park & there are some days when you’re not even close to hitting the mark. That is okay! That is also why being consistent is SO important. If you could create ANYTHING you wanted to do, what would that look like for you? You hit a burnout phase when you are constantly starting over and running on that hamster wheel. You have to have that realization & those moments that are going to push you into committing. Give yourself permission to change your story. When your commitment to yourself is SO strong, you cannot ever go backward. Failure is not an option. Push yourself to want more. Push yourself to be better. Stop listening to people tell you that you can’t do something. Stop listening to the noise. You really need to CHOOSE that is what you want. Your life is going to go by whether you want it to or not. Spend your time wisely, and make sure you do things that set you up for success to hit your goals and no longer play catch up! If you're ready to level up, then let us show you how to be consistent as an Artist in both your business and personal life.

Give Yourself Permission to Create a Life You Love | Episode 177
Are you on fire bringing in the new year? This part of the year especially artists feel like they are so alone and they are the only ones going through what they are going through. Everyone is setting goals this time of the year right? You have to know the UGLY facts of where you are at. If you don't truly know where you are at, then how can you get to where you want to go? It's one thing to create a vision board. But you need to know exactly where you are. You can't pretend it's sunshine & rainbows. You can set goals and go in circles. Or you can choose targets & goals of the FACTS of where you are at, THAT will actually get you to see the results you are looking for. THAT will propel you to where you want to go. Think of it this way, think of your maps on your phone. You first have to type in your current location. Then you have to type in where it is you want to go. Then you push start and it will start directing you to your destinations. Sometimes there are going to be road blocks, and you just need to reroute. The route to get there might change along the way, but the destination is always the same. Instead of sitting here waiting for things to “turn around” or get better. You have to take control of your own life. THings are not going to just “get better” if you do nothing about it. If you’re going to set targets & goals, you MUST make movements & make changes. BE INTENTIONAL with what you are doing. BE consistent with your goals. None of us are perfect. When we are first behind the chair we are saying one thing but yet we still are doing all the little things like discounts, adding clients and taking things that we really don't want to do. How many times have you told yourself a story that didn't allow you to look at the facts? To hit the goals that you want to hit, you are going to have to make bigger moves. You are going to have to commit to not only yourself but your goals. If not you are going to revert back to the place you are trying so hard to get out of. Once you get firm in what is actually happening based on the facts of your reality. Once you get clear on those things, you can actually see the real target that you are after. If your dreams don’t scare you, they are NOT big enough. Ask yourself what would have to be possible for you to have EVERYTHING you want. Entertain those ideas. What would you have to do, to allow yourself permission to get what you wanted? … What would you have to do in order to get the thing that you’re wanting?Who would you have to be? Once you start entertaining THOSE thoughts, you are going to start to see that the path is really clear on how you get there & THOSE thoughts and feelings are whats going to fuel your commitment to those goals. SO ask yourself, is this possible? Ask yourself HOW to make it possible? The only one putting restrictions on yourself is YOU. So give yourself permission. Permission to entertain those thoughts. Permission to see what is possible if you were to become THAT person. Permission to commit to your boundaries. Permission to commit to your goals. Ready to give yourself permission to join the movement of Artists breaking the mold of what it means to be a hairstylist?

Are You TRULY Committed? | Episode 176
How committed are you? Do you even know what you’re committed to? The biggest piece of advice to give is really just make sure that you are really good at communication. No matter what the situation is, if you are not good at communication, then you are going to find a lot of struggles inside of whatever it is that you are doing. There is putting in the time, and then there is putting the time in INTENTIONALLY!!! The time is going to pass no matter what… So really, the results are up to you. Oftentimes people don’t commit to things because of their fear of failure. You might fail… but you might not. You have to change your mindset, what have you got to lose? There is a level of having to be uncomfortable for a bit to push past that & really commit. REGARDLESS of failure. Your progress and growth is based on how quickly you choose to move. IF you don’t overthink it. You want to enjoy what you’re doing while making money right? As hairstylists, we love what we do so much that we will keep saying YES. Yes to everything, until we hate our job, we hate your clients and we don’t want to do it anymore at all. Instead of looking at the mess you created, you would rather just quit than clean up the mess you made. That’s the harsh reality of it. So, if you're at the point where you’re spending all your money on education, you’re already in trouble. If you’re going to invest in something, you don't have a choice but to commit! So let me ask you again… How committed are you? Do you believe in yourself enough?

Stop Being A Victim Of Yourself | Episode 175
When you start something new… How do you feel when you do? Are you an expert? Do you know exactly what you’re doing? Do you feel confident & comfortable? How about your support system? What’s funny is when we start hair school, we understand that we are NOT experts. We give ourselves grace because we know we are starting something new. How is that not the case when we are starting something else??? We forget that we are starting something new, and we forget to give ourselves grace. Let’s talk about being an expert… can you actually become an expert at something when you are offering every service imaginable? A misconception is that you actually have to be good at everything. Something that is not commonly taught is that it is easier to be an expert at something when you pick ONE thing. Do you know what else is a common misconception… to be a successful hairstylist, you have to have a big salon with lots of stylists. You can easily run a successful salon with only a few hair stylists if you know your numbers. Not only that, remember that your clients will pay you double if you can go faster if you can give them the outcome they are looking for, AND if the overall experience is better. What is the outcome you’re looking for? Once you figure out what that is, you want to reverse engineer it to really figure out HOW to get where you want. So STOP complaining about working holidays, stop overworking yourself & position yourself as the prize. It is a privilege to be doing what you’re doing and to be able to give people something they couldn't get anywhere else. Put yourself out there & do the things that are hard. THEN you will be able to really have the life you want. Nothing worth having comes easy. You have to fight for it. You have to find value in yourself FIRST. Anyone can put a post on Instagram, but not everyone can really double down & do the work. What is the outcome you’re looking for?

From Student to Educator: Luz's Story | Episode 174
Tune in this week as Danielle invites NBR® Educator & Licensed NBR® Artist Luz Swan to co-host the BMS Podcast! Has anyone ever told you that you were crazy for wanting what you want? Has anyone ever told you that you couldn’t accomplish the dreams that you had because they were too big? Too out of reach? What if someone were to just believe in you? Or maybe you’re just stuck on the “assembly line” train where you are just double booking client after client after client. Doesn’t that just burn you out just thinking about it? What are you looking for? FREEDOM. When the pressure is on, there is NOTHING more motivating because you have NO Choice but to sink or swim. Sometimes you have to lose everything so that you can build it back up. However, it doesn't have to be that way. You don’t HAVE to wait until you lose everything to start making those changes. To start making moves so that YOU can live the life you want, to be able to achieve that dream. We have been taught SO backward in this industry. We are taught that we need MORE clients and we work constantly. We need to find something that we are really good at, that we are passionate about. Something that we can specialize in. Then you need to realize how much you’re worth & realize that you are NOT living in scarcity. You will start to love your job again. When you slow down & do your numbers, you’ll realize that not only can you make MORE money but you can work less. Not to mention you won’t need to be afraid of days off in your books anymore. It’s a numbers game. When you look at the facts and numbers, you can have more freedom. IT'S LIBERATING! Empower yourself. Be where you are because you WANT to be, not because you need to be. You are a stylist by trade. That is your skill. Others can only respect you as much as you respect yourself. Ready to empower yourself? Then its time you join NBR® Education! Word of the Year! Gaslighting | Episode 173
GASLIGHTING… Do you even know what gaslighting means? Gaslighting: A form of psychological manipulation in which the abuser attempts to sow self-doubt and confusion in their victims mind. Typically gas lighters are seeking to gain power & control over a person by distorting reality & forcing them to question their own judgment and intuition Is there someone that comes to mind when you hear that? What do you do when that has happened to you? We often talk about standing in your power & own your power. Don’t go into this victim mentality, ask yourself if you stood up for yourself if you spoke your truth & communicated the way you KNOW you should have. Oftentimes people push your boundaries to see how far they can push. Maybe they are gaslighting you and manipulating you, maybe they are just seeing how far they can push you. Before you start to blame someone for gaslighting you, maybe you should take a good hard look at yourself & think… Did I allow that to happen? Oftentimes we lay blame on another person, but the reality is, we play an equal part. If you feel like you’re being manipulated by someone, instead of spiraling down all your stories, stand in your power & VOICE your opinion. Do you avoid conflict by letting yourself get walked all over or do you use your voice & stand in your power? Communicating doesn’t have to be hard. It's only hurting YOU by not communicating & sharing how you really feel.
