A Tear and A Smile - Inspirational Poetry by Kahlil Gibran | Recited by Simerjeet Singh

A Tear and A Smile - Inspirational Poetry by Kahlil Gibran | Recited by Simerjeet Singh

Khalil Gibran was a Lebanese- American artist, poet and writer who was considered a literary and political rebel in most of the Arab world. His philosophical writings and poetry touch the heart and the soul. Simerjeet Singh, through the rendition of this poem, gives the message that loss and sorrow, along with phases of happiness and love, make human existence complete. If you feel that life has been unjust and has given you only pain, listen to this poem to reinvigorate the desire to embrace your life completely to appreciate the true beauty. We hope you enjoy another gem from the Poetry That Inspires Series. A Tear and A Smile I would not exchange the sorrows of my heart For the joys of the multitude. And I would not have the tears that sadness makes To flow from my every part turn into laughter. I would that my life remain a tear and a smile. A tear to purify my heart and give me understanding Of life's secrets and hidden things. A smile to draw me nigh to the sons of my kind and To be a symbol of my glorification of the gods. A tear to unite me with those of broken heart; A smile to be a sign of my joy in existence. I would rather that I died in yearning and longing than that I live Weary and despairing. I want the hunger for love and beauty to be in the Depths of my spirit, for I have seen those who are Satisfied the most wretched of people. I have heard the sigh of those in yearning and Longing, and it is sweeter than the sweetest melody. With evening's coming the flower folds her petals And sleeps, embracing her longing. At morning's approach she opens her lips to meet The sun's kiss. The life of a flower is longing and fulfilment. A tear and a smile. The waters of the sea become vapor and rise and come Together and area cloud. And the cloud floats above the hills and valleys Until it meets the gentle breeze, then falls weeping To the fields and joins with brooks and rivers to Return to the sea, its home. The life of clouds is a parting and a meeting. A tear and a smile. And so does the spirit become separated from The greater spirit to move in the world of matter And pass as a cloud over the mountain of sorrow And the plains of joy to meet the breeze of death And return whence it came. To the ocean of Love and Beauty----to God. I Resign from Adulthood | Inspiration to Lead a Joyful Life | My Resignation | Recited by Simerjeet Singh

I Resign from Adulthood | Inspiration to Lead a Joyful Life | My Resignation | Recited by Simerjeet Singh

Childhood is a time of innocence and freedom. It's a time when you can explore the world without any worries. Unfortunately, as adults, we often forget to be children at heart. We're too busy with our responsibilities and obligations that we forget to enjoy life. Our next poem in the Poetry That Inspires Series is a beautiful reminder this holi to get back in touch with the power of smiles, hugs, and having fun. Happy Holi! Regards, Simerjeet Singh and TeamSJS I Resign from Adulthood To Who it May Concern: I am hereby officially tendering my resignation as an adult. I have decided I would like to accept the responsibilities of an 8-year-old again. I want to go to McDonald's and think that it's a four-star restaurant. I want to sail sticks across a fresh mud puddle and make ripples with rocks. I want to think M&Ms are better than money because you can eat them. I want to play dodge ball at recess and paint with watercolors in art. I want to lie under a big oak tree and run a lemonade stand with my friends on a hot summer's day. I want to return to a time when life was simple. When all you knew were colors, multiplication tables, and nursery rhymes, but that didn't bother you, because you didn't know what you didn't know and you didn't care. All you knew was to be happy because you were blissfully unaware of all the things that should make you worried or upset. I want to think the world is fair. That everyone is honest and good. I want to believe that anything is possible. Somewhere in our youth, we matured and learned too much. There are nuclear weapons, war, prejudice, and abused children. Lies, unhappy marriages, illness, pain, and death. A world where companies poison our water and our soil, and children kill. What happened to the time when we thought that everyone would live forever, because we didn't grasp the concept of death? When the worst thing in the world was if someone took the jump rope from you or picked you last for kickball. I want to be oblivious to the complexities of life and be overly excited by the little things again. I want to return to the days when children played hide-n-seek outside instead of being glued to a television, when video games were as harmless as Pac-Man...instead of spine-ripping, blood-splattering mind numbers like Mortal Combat, and TV still had some shows on that weren't about sex, killing, and lies. I remember being naive and thinking everyone was happy because I was. Afternoons were spent climbing trees and fences and riding my bike. I never worried about time, bills, or where I was going to find the money to fix my car. I used to wonder what I was going to do or be when I grew up, not worry about what I'll do if this doesn't work out. I want to live simple again. I don't want my day to consist of computer crashes, mountains of paperwork, depressing news, how to survive more days in the month than there is money in the bank, doctor bills, gossip, illness, and loss of loved ones. I want to believe in the power of smiles, hugs, a kind word truth, justice, peace, dreams, the imagination, mankind, and making angels in the snow. So.... here's my checkbook and my car-keys, my credit card bills and my 401K statements. I am officially resigning from adulthood. And if you want to discuss this further, you'll have to catch me first, cause... "Tag! You're it." The Will To Win - A Life Changing Poem by Berton Braley | Poetry That Inspires by Simerjeet Singh

The Will To Win - A Life Changing Poem by Berton Braley | Poetry That Inspires by Simerjeet Singh

In this episode of the Poetry That Inspires Series, join Simerjeet Singh for a fun activity that will demonstrate a very important point about the power of focus and the neuroscience behind it. In an era of constant and instant connectivity and flood of irrelevant information which can overwhelm your mind, the ability to declutter and focus is a superpower. Berton Braley’s poem echoes a similar sentiment and will inspire you to move forward with faith and courage. Regards, TeamSJS The Will To Win by Berton Braley If you want a thing bad enough To go out and fight for it, Work day and night for it, Give up your time and your peace and your sleep for it If only desire of it Makes you quite mad enough Never to tire of it, Makes you hold all other things tawdry and cheap for it If life seems all empty and useless without it And all that you scheme and you dream is about it, If gladly you'll sweat for it, Fret for it, Plan for it, Lose all your terror of God or man for it, If you'll simply go after that thing that you want. With all your capacity, Strength and sagacity, Faith, hope and confidence, stern pertinacity, If neither cold poverty, famished and gaunt, Nor sickness nor pain Of body or brain Can turn you away from the thing that you want, If dogged and grim you besiege and beset it, You'll get it!
