184. Catastrophizing, Avoidance and Always Digging Yourself out of Holes w/Elease Wiggins

Elease Wiggins is a multidimensional powerhouse TEDx speaker, self-published author, coach, philanthropist, and mom of two. In 2015, she incorporated ELEASE, LLC, a coaching, speaking, and writing company. Then in 2018, she incorporated Communities Promoting Reading (CPR), a non-profit organization that supports low-income adult students. Throughout her career, Elease’s work has been dedicated to promoting self-awareness and self-improvement.


Main Business Issues:

  • Having to constantly put out fires

Elease’s Key Insights and Takeaways:

  • As a multi-faceted entrepreneur, Elease noticed that whenever she was at the brink of success, something “bad” would happen to derail her

  • Since a lot of these things were outside of her direct control she was confused as to why this was happening

  • As we dove deeper into the call it became clear that her pattern of avoidance was actually creating a lot of the “crashes” she had to dig herself out of

  • This was such a rooted part of her identity that “good at problem solving” was showing up on personality tests but she hadn’t made the connection that she was creating her own problems to solve

  • In addition, she also had a tendency to catastrophize which made the cycle even worse because even small things would throw her off
