Jim Walmsley on Winning Western States, the Coconino Cowboys, Future Plans
Jim Walmsley joins the CITIUS MAG Podcast with Chris Chavez and Stephen Kersh to talk about his big win at the Western States 100 Mile Endurance Run. He shares a little bit of background into how he found ultra running and was introduced into the sport, what makes for a good ultra runner, preparing your mindset for a grueling race and enjoying the process. Jim had two previous close calls for the win at Western States, In 2016, he aggressively chased the course record in his first time out on the course but made one bad turn that cost him the W. In 2017, he was a DNF after 90 miles due to heat exhaustion and struggles to keep fluids down. 2018 was his crowning moment. Chris Chavez and Kevin Liao get together in the stands during the men's 20K race walk to recap all the day's action from Day 1 of the USATF Outdoor Track and Field Championships. Lopez Lomong made history by becoming the first man to win a U.S. outdoor title in the 1,500 meters and 10,000 meters. Molly Huddle rebounded from the Boston Marathon to throw down a 64-second final lap and win her fourth U.S. 10,000m title. Ben Flanagan On Winning the NCAA 10,000m Title, His Mom, Trusting The Process
Ben Flanagan was one of the biggest surprises at the 2018 NCAA Championships with his win in the 10,000 meters. In his final race in a Michigan uniform, he unleashed a crazy kick to stun pre-race favorite Vincent Kiprop in the final 200 meters. Flanagan won by just .46 seconds in a career-best of 28:34.53 and became the first Michigan man to win the 10,000m title since 1989. Flanagan went viral after he was caught on camera saying, "Where's My Mom? Where's My Mom?" immediately after crossing the finish line. He joins the CITIUS MAG Podcast to take us through the months leading up to his race, the 24 hours in Eugene and why he ended up calling out for his mother.
