Dread Nation by Justina Ireland

Announcing our new podcast - Lovelist Reads. To help our current listeners know about it, we are sharing it here as well but in the future this will only be in its own feed.

For our first episode of Lovelist Reads, we begin with Dread Nation by Justina Ireland. A little late to the party as this wonderful book was released in 2018, it had sat on our shelves longer than it should have for its quality. A brilliant, thought-provoking story wrapped up in the fun and easy adventure of a historical zombie story. Set after the dead began to rise after the Battle of Gettysburg, we follow a heroine by the name of Jane McKeene. Jane is a mixed race young woman who attends Miss Preston's School of Combat which exists to train young Black women to be the Attendandants, well behaved bodyguards to wealthy women.
