DNSYE - DAVE MESSENGER UPDATE SPECIAL
Justin, Peter and eventually Carl (who was reciprocating for us on a Stoke City podcast) get to have a follow up discussion with Head of EDI Dave Messenger to go through the metrics reported at the start of the month (see link for website article) discussing the number of incidents and the types of outcomes reported last season and the season before relating to the "We" campaign that we talked about last season. The number of incidents have reduced which is great news but we go into which types have increased, which have decreased and which have stayed the same and why that might be. We then look at what Dave and his team do with each of these incidents and what the outcomes might look or feel like. In addition we find out where the line is drawn between home games, away games and also on club run courses. We find out what it might mean if you find a yellow card on your seat (don't panic), what is a “behaviour agreement” and why self-policing like grown ups has a part to play in retaining our own identities and values in a positive way and help reduce stadium bans. We discuss the collaboration between clubs and whether other clubs report these kinds of instances. It is essential to state that the number of incidents reported is a tiny fraction of the number of supporters who come to Vicarage Road or follow the Hornets away each season and the numbers are going in the right direction – so good news. We also have confirmed that an arrest is made the moment anyone steps onto the pitch (so stay off it guys) – which would have made the Troy goal v Leicester pitch invasion a nightmare of police paperwork!!! Do have a look at the link to see what results we were chatting through and let us know your thoughts on this. COYH!! This Podcast has been created and uploaded by Do Not Scratch Your Eyes. Here we hear the 5 word reviews and long form comments - we know we need a striker and that we look short in a number of areas of the pitch but whilst some are criticising players on the pitch others point out that they are doing ok and it is the responsibility of the management of the club to provide Valerien with more usable options from the bench and to bolster the starting 11. The last days of the window will, as ever, be watched and, as Gino said at the Q&A - judge him on his actions rather than his words. We have a coach that is capable of producing high energy football, the supporters are behind him - we now need the much vaunted recruitment arm of the club to get the balance right between keeping the club sustainable and supporting the manager in terms of tenure and with players to really bring out the potential in the manager and the squad. We discuss a disappointing result from the Potteries and analyse some of the performances, areas lacking or weak in the squad and find out what 2 or 3 positions supporters would strengthen in following Ismael's comments yesterday. THE OPPOSITION VIEW - STOKE CITY (Away)
We speak to Dave from the "Wizards of Drivel" about all things Stoke and quite a lot that wasn't really about Stoke at all! How excited is Dave with their new approach of signing "exciting foreign players", how do they like their manager, Financial fair play and who is at the opposite end of the football spectrum to Ben Pearson, who is at the opposite end of the player name spectrum to Joe Gubbins? How is (one of the many) centre forward who was linked to us getting on Which full back has the best Jedi name, Staffordshire Oat Cakes which Carlos (who bought a pen with him) has an impressive knowledge of, Monkey Forests, what is the flappiest of dinosaurs, celebrity fans (including Soccer AM appointed fans) and the most dangerous Backgammon prediction to date!!! Justin moans a bit about the prediction league (again), Dave is concerned about our general well being and John's especially, the captain of the Titanic and did we mention Monkey Forests? Yes we did because they're a thing!!!! COYH!!!! This Podcast has been created and uploaded by Do Not Scratch Your Eyes. The views in this Podcast are not necessarily the views of talkSPORT. PART TWO Uncle Ron and Pete get in their time machine and complain about strikers not being signed in 1994 as a simile to not having signed the big number 9 as yet but nostalgia’s not what it used to be as Justin and Ron beat Pete up about his wafer thin Smiths/Morrissey knowledge! We hear from Jack and a jazz band in a park in Washington DC that seem to get louder the further he walks away from them! Paul FT joins us and is enthused by the performance and implores us to “trust the process” and be patient. Ellie joins us to question if we have the strategy to get into the play offs which would be success despite sitting in third place currently. Ray enthuses for both the performance and attitude of the players which is in stark contrast to last season and defends Dan Bachmann as he is being told to play in the manner that that he is. We speak to fair weather dog walker and dice enthusiast John about his perspective and his friends (who is a Pilgrims fan) view of the game. 5 word reviews focus on the need for another striker or two and the goalkeeping concerns about Bachmann being too involved in the build up too high up the pitch. Gary joins us live from his Peloton workout with words of wisdom about our former player now scoring hattricks at Hull before Danny (Loyal Hornet) pleased with what we have but joining the chorus for more cutting edge options in the attacking area of the pitch COYH!!!! Part One We talk to the supporters after the 0-0 draw against the Pilgrims. Wendover is his usual positive self and Pete drops him in it with Mrs Wendover over an unannounced potential dinner guest, the still holidaying Rio Woolf about taking our chances when we get into the areas to deliver a shot or a final ball into the box and consider is this a good point or two lost and hear from Aaron from the green and White pod to hear the view from the Plymouth end whilst eating Mexican food! Regulars Neil and Rich come on, Neil was pleased with the pattern and the style and Rich described the game as a 0-0 massacre feeling that Plymouth were not in the game. Both talk through the game and the players before Rich takes us through his thoughts having attended the “at our place” at the training ground on Thursday evening and who he suspects might be the number 9 most likely to arrive soonish and the word shekel is used – not for the last time on the Spaces…. THE OPPOSITION VIEW - Plymouth Argyle (Home)
We chat to Aaron from the Green & White Pod about the Pilgrims recent good times following some precarious brushes with extinction, the championship year and the why does the manager who finished second seem to have a bigger reputation than Argyles own Steve Schumacher? We discover why teams in East Anglia should both love and loathe Plymouth in equal measure and who is and who isn’t a local rival – sort of! We look at a couple of signings who were on loan at Home Park last year We presumed that Plymouth with good football and a big catchment area – but Argyle fans can be fickle it seems but speaking to a fan who really like their ownership and a sustainable model is a pleasant rarity in the Championship. The prediction league is it’s normal huge smooth success as "Random Nonsense" predicts a high scoring result and there's more dice fun to be had!! Justin starts talking about cider and we lose a battle of who’s got the best kit but find out just who was the best player ever to play at Home Park if it wasn’t Pele? COYH!!!! TWITTER SPACE - PART 2 WATFORD 4 - 0 QPR
PART TWO We speak to Rio who’s o holiday in Crete, Sean makes a great debut call and asks if we have ever scored a quicker goal, we try to talk to PJ in Ireland but the technology gremlins mean that we will have to continue that conversation next time, Martin talks about heart palpitations with our goalkeeper and captain distribution behaviour but reserves special praise for Jeremy Ngakia, Andy see’s Pete’s word of the day (fun) and successfully raises him with an “uplifting” which is a much better word, We almost all agree that Dave should be called Dave – with the exception of So – who awkwardly points out that he already has a perfectly good name that we should use (“Giorgi” – which we presume is short for “Dave”), Pete gets all overexcited and suggests we may end up with Plan A, B and C!! Dan joins us from the train but reception gets the better of us but not before reinforcing that Dave was great fun, yet another superb first time call from Lee driving back to Rugby in a great mood and offering a great breakdown of the afternoon whilst at all time acknowledging that QPR will not be the high water mark of opposition this season. Finally Ben Pegram joins us having single handedly keeping Premier team away from Joao Pedro for a season offering to be the sacrificial lamb if Watford win the next two games!!!! The overly convoluted question league continues to take form and we review the 5 word and long form reviews. COYH!!!! This Podcast has been created and uploaded by Do Not Scratch Your Eyes.
