Wondery Presents Frozen Head
Hosted by Ash Kelley and Alaina Urquhart from the hit show Morbid. When 90-year-old Laurence Pilgeram drops dead on the sidewalk outside his condo, you might think that’s the end of his story. And that belief will pull multiple generations of the Pilgeram family into a cryonics soap opera filled with dead pets, gold coins, grenades, fist fights, mysterious packages, family feuds, Hall of Fame baseball legends, and frozen heads — lots of frozen heads. Out of Place Objects
On this episode of Expanded Perspectives, the guys start the show off by talking about how Kyle is about to start traditional barebow 3D archery, some disc golf news, and why you shouldn't be afraid to try something new! Then, a retired police officer in Memphis, Tennessee has a bizarre run-in with a lizard-like creature while out driving one evening. Next, a family get-together near Monahans, Texas is interrupted by some extra-terrestrials! Next, After the break Cam and Kyle discuss some strange out of place objects that have been discovered. It can be hard to resist the allure of a mysterious object found in a context that doesn’t seem to make rational sense, suggesting that it’s proof of time travelers, lost civilizations, or alien visitors. You don’t have to be a conspiracy theorist or a cryptozoologist to marvel at a bizarre computer-like device that dates back to Ancient Greece, or a 2,000-year-old battery found outside Baghdad in the 1930s. So-called “Out of Place Artifacts,” also known as OOPArts, are often said to “baffle scientists,” and conspiracy theorists suggest that scientific efforts to identify their origin and purpose willfully ignore potentially controversial explanations outside the mainstream. After all, it’s true enough that science is constantly evolving, and we still don’t have the answers to many of life’s mysteries. All of this and more on this installment of Expanded Perspectives! After the break, Kyle brings up some bizarre encounters from one of Linda Godfrey's books "I Know What I Saw". The monsters of ancient mythology, folklore, and more contemporary urban legend have long captured the popular imagination. While most people in America today relegate monsters to just that–our imaginations–we continue to be fascinated by the unknown. Linda Godfrey is one of the country’s leading authorities on modern-day monsters and has interviewed countless eyewitnesses to strange phenomena. The Hollow Earth and More
On this episode of Expanded Perspectives, a listener writes into the show with a strange experience while out duck and deer hunting. Where they on some ancient Native American land? Then, a person believes they saw an upright canine creature in the woods one night while in a park. After the break, Cam brings up the strange theory surrounding the Hollow Earth. Modern science holds that the Earth is an unbroken series of layers, crusts, and liquid magma surrounding a dense, hot core made primarily of iron and nickel. But in the 17th century, some of the leading scientific minds of the time had a different theory—that the planet is actually hollow. This idea has proved incredibly durable. Even today, there is a small cadre of Hollow Earth believers who are fighting valiantly to validate their ideas through books, websites, meetings, and some extremely ambitious travel plans. Next, Cam taks about the Honey Island Swamp Monster. In case you didn't know, the Honey Island Swamp Monster is a humanoid cryptid that is reported to have been seen in and around Honey Island Swamp, Louisiana since 1963. It was first reported in 1963, when two hunters spotted this creature prowling the swamps. Its tracks indicate three-toed webbed feet. It is possible that a Bigfoot evolved webbed feet to better suit its swamp environment. Some even believe it's an experiment gone awry All of this and more on this installment of Expanded Perspectives! Christmas Spirits
On this episode of Expanded Perspectives, the guys start the show off by talking about the new Cocaine Bear movie that is about to come out in theaters. Then, scientists have uncovered a lizard fossil that hadn’t been seen since the 1950s and army ant fossils that were hidden at Harvard University for almost 100 years. At the Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery (TMAG) in Hobart, Tasmania. Researchers there found the long-lost remains of the last known Tasmanian tiger, or thylacine (Thylacinus cynocephalus). The remains have been missing for over 85 years. Then, a listener writes into the show with a strange tale of seeing a Bigfoot while out fishing in Nebraska back in 1959! A person believes that they saw a small Troll, Gnome or Duende crossed a street right in front of them while riding their bike. After the break, Cam brings up some strange stories involving Christmas! When people hear the words “ghosts” and “Christmas” in the same sentence, one is likely to immediately think of those of Charles Dickens’ beloved classic story A Christmas Carol, with Scrooge and his harrowing night of being visited by the ghosts of Christmas past, present, and future. Other than this, it does not seem that this season of joy and peace should have anything at all to do with ghosts and phantoms, with hauntings typically the furthest thing from people’s minds at this time of year. And yet there are strange stories out there involving Christmas! All of this and more on this installment of Expanded Perspectives! Sponsors: Lumi Labs: Microdose is available nationwide.
