Episode 18 - My Favorite Podcasters in Feb 2018

In Episode 18 of Annie Talks, I wanted to try something a little different. I have a segment on my YouTube channel called "My Favorites" -- and they're different things for that given month. Things like: favorite movie, favorite show, favorite podcaster, favorite YouTuber, favorite foods, etc. So, specific to the podcast audience, I thought it would be nice to have a "Favorite Podcaster" of the month. In actuality, I started listening to them toward the end of 2017. They are the go-to podcasters that I listen to on a daily basis, particularly for their content. I hope in some small way, that I could contribute to the world by influencing others to listen to the types of podcasts that I listen to. I don't know how long each of these episodes will be each and every month, but I guess we'll test the waters in this maiden voyage of a series. So this is the first of what I hope to be a monthly series simply titled "My Favorite Podcasters of the Month," and so without further adieu, here are my favorite Podcasters for the month of February. 1) So, here's a podcaster that I mentioned more recently in one of my YouTube videos. This podcaster is Frank Buckley Interviews. Frank Buckley is the KTLA 5 Morning News anchor seen Monday through Friday from 7 - 10 a.m. in Los Angeles. I think the reason I enjoy Frank Buckley Interviews so much is primarily because of the people he interviews. I mean first of all these are high profile people, celebrities, authors, athletes, etc. I mean, guess when you're a prime-time news anchor, you can have whoever you want on your podcast, right? All kidding aside, he really does have great interviews on the podcast. Recently he interviewed actor George Takei, known best for his role of Hikaru Sulu on the USS Enterprise on the original show "Star Trek." George Takei is also starring in the musical "Allegiance" at the Aratani Theater at the Japanese American Cultural and Community Center in downtown Los Angeles. I actually saw George perform in "Allegiance" right around the time it had opened in New York City, a Broadway original with then co-star Lea Salonga. It was truly an amazing performance by both actors. I remember attending the performance with my good friend Nikki, and between the two of us and the many hundreds of theater-goers, there was not a dry eye in the theater! I kid you not. Frank Buckley Interviews has awesome guests on his show that a small-time fish in a large pond like me can only dream of having on my show one day. He had Jimmy Jam, who as you know, along with co-producer Terry Lewis wrote and produced Janet Jackson's first album. In that particular podcast, Jimmy Jam talks in detail about that experience and what all transpired behind-the-scenes while working with Ms. Jackson herself. This was one of my favorite episodes on Frank Buckley Interviews. There were so many more favorites including an interview with the legendary voice of the Los Angeles Dodgers, Mr. Vin Scully himself. So, if you're like me and love to hear these deep conversations with legendary greats, or celebrities, and other high profile public figures, I recommend downloading and listening to Frank Buckley Interviews. 2) My next favorite podcast of the February is a show I first downloaded way back in October or November 2017 and didn't actually start listening more intently until this year beginning in January. First of all, this podcaster is living the dream in the beautiful, picturesque, beachfront islands of Puerto Rico! Yep, way to make me jealous man! He is the founder, creator, and host of Entrepreneurs on Fire and calls his listeners Fire Nation -- I'm talking about none other than John Lee Dumas. Entrepreneurs on Fire, also known as EonFire, is such an inspirational podcast and JLD features so many cool guests who are indeed entrepreneurs themselves who have built an empire from the ground up and oftentimes lend their expertise with tips and tricks on how to get started...

Episode 32 - Annie Talks with Zumba Instructor and Life Coach Melissa Algoso I met Mel about two years ago while taking one of her Zumba classes at a local 24 Hour Fitness. I absolutely fell in love with her Zumba class and her dance-style. She incorporates many dance “moves” from the ‘80s and ‘90s which is very nostalgic for me and doesn’t feel like “working out.” Her class transports you back in time, rekindles fond ‘old-school’ memories and makes exercising fun. Hear about Melissa’s background as a professional dancer, thoughts on fitness and teaching, as well as her inspirational message of empowerment. Episode 31 - Annie Talks with PA Announcer Mark Clinton | Finding Your Voice | Creating Your Own Sty

My guest on Episode 31 of Annie Talks is Mark Clinton - Public Address Announcer. I met Mark in 2009 where he was the Public Address announcer at El Dorado High School and had been the school's announcer for decades. Mark has been announcing for 27 years now. Today he is one of the PA announcers for the High A Minor League Rancho Cucamonga Quakes, a farm team for the Los Angeles Dodgers Organization. Mark, who played baseball at El Dorado High School, tells the story of how an injury led to the start of his career as an announcer. His love of the game led to his gig as the resident PA announcer, thus opening up the doors to many other opportunities. He's had the joy and pleasure of working with 4 different High Schools, (El Dorado, Orange Lutheran, Canyon & Murrieta Mesa), 3 different Colleges, (Fullerton, Santa Ana && UC Riverside), the Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA)- Collegiate summer team, and 3 Minor League teams (Quakes, Storm & 66ers). He has a simple approach to his craft: RESPECT EVERYONE. It's very evident that Mark truly enjoys what he does, and and it definitely shows. Here now is my conversation with Mark Clinton. Episode 27 - Annie Talks and SIN Radio talk with Kumu Hulu Lokelani Reichert

Episode 27 of Annie Talks includes Kamaka Brown, the Creative Director of Sandwich Island Network Radio. Some of you may know that I am one of the "Krew" members of the SIN Radio at V93FM.com and we were recently honored to be invited to the 8th annual San Diego Ho'olaule'a in De Anza Cove, San Diego, Calif. where we kicked off the very busy, fun and festive Hawaiian festival season. There was so much to be seen at the Ho'olaule'a from musicians, hula dancers, Tahitian dancers, to food vendors, and Hawaiian product vendors galore. There were two stages: the main stage where large groups performed and a Kanikapila stage for a more intimate, up close and personal performances by so many other groups. If you follow my YouTube channel, I broadcasted LIVE directly from San Diego. If you follow me on Facebook or Twitter you may have seen a few more LIVE broadcasts from the San Diego Ho'olaule'a. Uncle Kamaka Brown, Uncle Kevin Weidemeyer and yours truly also broadcasted LIVE from the Sandwich Islands Network radio booth throughout the entire weekend and let me tell you, there was no shortage of entertainment! And like I said, we are just getting started! If you aren't already following along on social media, be sure to check out Facebook.com/AnnieTalks, or my Twitter @Annie_Talks, or my Instagram @Annie_Talks, or visit my website at AnnieTalks.com and you can check out all of the dates, times and locations for the next Ho'laule'as, festivals, performances, and Kanikapilas! You won't want to miss them! We are also presenting a fabulous Hawaiian Feather Pua workshop coming up this month in May, so you'll want to check that out too. Speaking of which, Uncle Kamaka Brown and I had the absolute joy of speaking with Kumu Hulu LOKAY-LANI Reichert who is the Kumu (teacher) of the Hawaiian Feather Pua workshops. We learned more about her quest to perpetuate the almost forgotten craft of feather Pua making. Kumu LOKAY-LANI is very passionate about keeping the art form alive and thriving. She really does give so much of her heart to do so, too. When we met with her, you can feel her passion and her love for the art as it just radiated through the way in which she spoke about it. I'm thrilled to have spoken with such a beautiful person, and she is a legend in her own time. Episode 26 - Annie Talks with Megan Soliah of Stone Management Inc | Staying True to Yourself and Ha

Lately, I have been talking with various entrepreneurs and startup companies and learning about their career moves and where they see themselves in the next coming years. So, for this episode, I wanted to take a slight turn and talk about working your way up the ranks in an organization. My next guest on Annie Talks, Episode 26, is this super awesome gal who I met a few years ago who has kept true to herself and worked her way up the ranks, earning her the title of Vice President of Production Resources at Stone Management Inc. Megan Soliah began her career at The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, D.C., stage managing such productions as A Dance Celebration with Mikhail Baryshnikov and The Kennedy Center Open House. She transitioned from stage to film and television and brings with her over 10 years of experience in production coordinating and product placement having worked for Twentieth Century Fox Television, the Fox Network, NBCUniversal Television and Universal Pictures. Some of her more notable projects she's been involved with include 24, American Idol, Parenthood, The Bourne Legacy, The Fast & The Furious franchise, Fifty Shades of Grey and Jurassic World. She has a great story to tell and is an inspiration to many young women and young professionals. Here are my takeaways from talking with Megan: It may sound cliche, but there's positively truth to the saying, "Hard work pays off," and in Megan's case, it certainly has! She stayed true to herself, she knew where she had been which set the course for where she wanted to go next -- her goals. She also talked about having patience because you'll get to your goal -- but while on your journey to achieving your goal, don't forget to stop and smell the roses along the way. Enjoy life, enjoy your friends and family and make time for yourself. And most importantly and for you women out there -- embracing your girl boss and girl power mentality! To reach Megan, you may email her at megan@stonemanagement.net. #MeganSoliah #StoneManagementInc #StoneManagement #GirlBoss #GirlPower #EmbraceYourInnerGirlBoss #EmbraceYourInnerGirlPower #PatienceIsKey #SetGoals #AnnieTalks
