Ardent Run Club: Episode 18 - Gus Withers - From South to North

On this episode, Tomi speaks with the 20 year-old, aspirational athlete from Essex, living in Newcastle - Gus Withers. Gus is a passionate, rangey elite runner for Gateshead Harriers. After one year of training, Gus was able to finish amongst the top athletes in the world in the Great North Run Half Marathon in 2019 and his passion for running grew greater from there. He's one of the current young athletes in the North East with bags of potential and he runs for Gateshead Harriers with coach John Stephenson's group.

Gus talks about what got him into running and his journey from racing as a kid to competing with international athletes at the age of 19.

He takes us through his training and race prep and gives us tips to remain motivated with examples of the challenges he overcame in 2020.

Throughout the conversation, Gus keeps reminding us that in order to achive the best we can be and even compete at the top level, you need to work extremely hard. It's all about consistency, motivation and never giving up and this is Gus' story so far.

Please follow @gus_withers on Instagram if you're intersted in his life and his running! And remember to follow @ardentrunclub on Instagram and @thisisardent on all social media for updates on this podcast and us over here at Ardent!

We hope you learn something, we hope you get inspired and we hope you Find Your Fire.
