THROWBACK: JonBenet w/ the Captain of True Crime Garage Part 1

The Captain, co-host of the True Crime Garage Podcast, joined Who Killed...? in 2021 to talk about one of the most infamous unsolved Christmas murders of all time, 6-year-old JonBenet Ramsey. Statement on the 25th Anniversary of the JonBenet Ramsey Murder As of December 2021, the Boulder Police Department has processed more than 1,500 pieces of evidence related to the murder of JonBenet Ramsey. JonBenet was six years old when she was reported missing on Dec. 26, 1996, after her family reported finding a ransom note inside their home in the 700 block of 15th Street. Her body was found in a basement room, and a later autopsy revealed that the cause of her death was strangulation. As of December 2021, that evidence has included the analysis of nearly 1,000 DNA samples. The BPD Major Crimes Unit has received, reviewed or investigated more than 21,016 tips, letters and emails and detectives have traveled to 19 states to interview or speak with more than 1,000 individuals in connection to this crime. Thanks to the huge advances in DNA technology, multiple suspects have been run through the system to check for matches. CBI has updated over 750 reference samples with the latest DNA technology. The Boulder Police Department works closely with CBI on future DNA advancements. Additionally, Boulder Police have worked with CBI to ensure the DNA in the system can be compared correctly to new DNA samples that have been uploaded to ensure accuracy. That DNA is checked regularly for any new matches. As the Department continues to use new technology to enhance the investigation, it is actively reviewing genetic DNA testing processes to see if those can be applied to this case moving forward. Anyone with information related to this investigation is asked to contact our tipline at 303-441-1974, BouldersMostWanted@bouldercolorado.gov or Northern Colorado Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS(8477) or www.nococrimestoppers.com Learn more about your ad choices. Guests: James Renner, author and host of Philosophy of Crime Nic Edwards of True Crime Garage Original Air Date: 10/12/18 In this episode of Who Killed...?, Nic from True Crime Garage and author James Renner joined the show to discuss the ongoing efforts to solve the case of Amy Mihaljevic's abduction and murder. We highlight the continuous scientific advancements utilized to bring closure to other cold cases, emphasizing that it has never been considered a cold case. Both Harold Bound and William Strunak were individuals who drew suspicion in the Amy Mihaljevic case. While Bound's involvement was linked to his living situation and proximity to the stables where Amy frequented, Strunak's connection stemmed from his volunteer work and alleged inappropriate behavior. Strunek's status as a favorite suspect of FBI profiler Robert Ressler added weight to the investigation's focus on him. The contrasting backgrounds and circumstances of Bound and Strunek highlight the diverse range of individuals considered in the search for Amy's killer. Learn more about your ad choices. The Good Hart Murders: A Northern Michigan Cold Case

The Good Hart Murders: A Northern Michigan Cold Case

This week on Who Killed...?, I dive into the mysterious case of the Robison family, also known as the Good Hart murders, in Northern Michigan. Join me as we explore the idyllic setting of northern Michigan and invite listeners to draw their own conclusions on who may have been responsible for this tragic event. The prime suspect in the Robison family murders, Joe Scolaro, was a former business partner of Richard Robison. Scolaro's suspicious behavior, financial motives, and connections to the crime scene made him a compelling suspect. Despite failing polygraph tests and having incriminating evidence against him, Scolaro was never officially charged. His mysterious suicide added another layer of complexity to the case. "So who would want to murder a family? Was it a crime of opportunity? That was a theory, but again, since this house was so secluded, that almost throws that theory right out the window. How could someone bludgeon a child to death, let alone after they had already killed most everyone else with a gun? So what was the significance of this overkill?" WK Rewind: The Shenandoah Murders with author Kathryn Miles

WK Rewind: The Shenandoah Murders with author Kathryn Miles

BREAKING NEWS: 🚨 The Federal Bureau of Investigation's Richmond Field Office and the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Western District of Virginia announced a suspect has been identified in the murders of two women in the Shenandoah National Park, Virginia, in May 1996.   Laura “Lollie” Winans and Julianne “Julie” Williams were murdered at their campsite near the Skyland Resort on May 24, 1996. Family members called the National Park Service after the women did not return home as planned. Their bodies were found on June 1, 1996, after an extensive search by rangers with the National Park Service.  Recently, the private lab successfully pulled DNA from several items of evidence and, with assistance from the Virginia State Police, the profile was submitted to the FBI’s Combined DNA Index System (CODIS). There was a positive match to Walter Leo Jackson Senior (born November 2, 1947). Jackson was a convicted serial rapist, originally from the Cleveland, Ohio area. - FBI.gov I was lucky to have author Kathryn Miles on the show two years ago. She has written a tremendous new true crime book, Trailed: One Woman's Quest to Solve the Shenandoah Murders. We have a wide-ranging conversation about law enforcement, the keys to this case, and where things stand now. If you enjoy a well-researched guest, then this is a must-listen. In May 1996, two skilled backcountry leaders, Lollie Winans and Julie Williams, entered Virginia’s Shenandoah National Park for a week-long backcountry camping trip. The free-spirited and remarkable young couple had met and fallen in love the previous summer while working at a world-renowned outdoor program for women. During their final days in the park, they descended the narrow remnants of a trail and pitched their tent in a hidden spot. After the pair didn’t return home as planned, park rangers found a scene of horror at their campsite: their tent slashed open, their beloved dog missing, and both women dead in their sleeping bags. The unsolved murders of Winans and Williams continue to haunt all who had encountered them or knew their story. - Workman Publishing The Strothman Literary Agency represents Kathryn Miles Follow her: FBI.gov Twitter: Kathryn_Miles Facebook: TrailedTheBook Instagram: Kathryn_miles1 Sources: https://www.kathrynmiles.net https://www.outsideonline.com/culture/books-media/shenandoah-murders-trailed-kathryn-miles-queer-women-outdoors/ https://www.strothmanagency.com/trailed-one-womans-quest-to-solve-the-shenandoah-murders/ Purchase Trailed Learn more about your ad choices.
