The History of Veela - Harry Potter Explained

The History of Veela - Harry Potter Explained

Welcome to Harry Potter Theory. Today, we'll be discussing the history of the magical beings known as Veela. Within the wizarding world of Harry Potter, we never learn all that much about the mysterious and exceptionally beautiful humanoid species called the Veela. In fact, much of what we do know about these magical beings revolves entirely around their physical appearance, with their description given in great detail several times over the course of the books and films, but specifically throughout The Goblet of Fire. This fourth instalment of the series is the first time Harry, alongside us Muggles, are introduced to the idea of the Veela. Here, before we even reach 100 pages of the novel, the Veela come prancing onto the page after being announced as the Bulgarian Quidditch team's mascots during the 1994 Quidditch World Cup. This is, of course, the chapter in which Harry attends the World Cup alongside the Weasleys and Hermione Granger. Now, up until that time, Harry was completely unfamiliar with the Veela and seems to be rather confused when Arthur Weasley announces that they are the Bulgarian team's mascots. However, before he could ask Mr. Weasley what they were exactly, a group of these magical beings took to the pitch. This, as you may remember, effectively answered Harry's question, as described in the following excerpt from the novel:

Can Muggles See THESTRALS? - Harry Potter Theory

Can Muggles See THESTRALS? - Harry Potter Theory

Welcome to Harry Potter Theory. Today we're discussing whether Muggles can see Thestrals, the frightening winged horses who in the world of Harry Potter can only be seen by witches and wizards who have witnessed death. Now, I say "winged horses" since the majority of a Thestral's appearance is indeed rather horse-like in nature. However--as described in the Harry Potter series--these magical beings are actually quite a bit reptilian in the way that they look. This description of Thestrals is likely due to the fact that they have dragon-like heads and completely white eyes, lacking both pupils and irises. The body of a Thestral is also completely devoid of any muscle or "meatiness". Instead, their thin bodies are composed entirely of skin and bones. With their dark black coats clinging to their skeleton bodies, they are rather sinister looking, indeed. What's more, they also have large leathery wings, somewhat like an enormous bat or--once again, a dragon. Needless to say, these dark, foreboding wings make them look all the more spooky in their appearance. Of course, what makes a Thestral truly eerie is the fact that they can only be seen after a person has witnessed death first-hand. In Harry Potter, this of course explains why the first time Harry himself encounters a Thestral isn't until The Order of the Phoenix--for he had not been aware of someone dying in front of him before the death of Cedric Diggory in The Goblet of Fire. While many may argue that Harry should've been able to see Thestrals long before Cedric's death--since his mother, Lily Potter, was murdered by Voldemort right before his very eyes as an infant--that is not what we are here to discuss today...perhaps in another video!Socials: https://linktr.ee/hptheory See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

What Happens if Polyjuice Potion Goes HORRIBLY Wrong? - Harry Potter Theory

What Happens if Polyjuice Potion Goes HORRIBLY Wrong? - Harry Potter Theory

Welcome to Harry Potter Theory. Today, we'll be discussing what happens in the event that Polyjuice Potion goes wrong. First off, let's start with what Polyjuice Potion is exactly--a complex and highly time-consuming concoction, Polyjuice is a potion that should only be brewed by experienced and skilled witches and wizards. The intended result of this potion is to take on the appearance of someone else entirely. So, in order to brew Polyjuice, one must first acquire a piece of the individual whom they wish to impersonate. This can be anything from a strand of the person's hair to one of their toenail clippingsSocials: https://linktr.ee/hptheory See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

What Lies BEYOND the Veil? - Harry Potter Theory

What Lies BEYOND the Veil? - Harry Potter Theory

Welcome to Harry Potter Theory. Today, we're discussing what lies BEYOND that incredibly creepy Veil that's kept in the Ministry of Magic's Department of Mysteries. As you may recall, the first introduction we have to the Veil is in The Order of the Phoenix, when Harry, Ron, Hermione and other members of what will later be known as Dumbledore's Army storm the Department of Mysteries. During their exploration of the department, they find themselves in what is disturbingly referred to as the Death Chamber, which is described as a large amphitheatre with tiered seating encircling a dais. And upon the dais? The Veil. A tall pointed archway made of ancient stone that's so cracked it seems to defy gravity just by staying upright. And fluttering within the archway is, of course, a tattered, black--you guessed it--veil. Evidently the Veil has been around for as long as the Ministry. And judging by its deteriorated state, likely much longer. This, of course, suggests that the amphitheatre was built around the Veil, rather than the Veil having been found elsewhere and moved to the Ministry. So, what exactly is the Veil? How Different are Goblins and Elves? - Harry Potter Explained

How Different are Goblins and Elves? - Harry Potter Explained

Welcome to Harry Potter Theory. Today, we'll be taking a look at the differences between goblins and elves within the Wizarding World of Harry Potter. Before we get started with the differences--of which there are many!--I'd like to make note of a few similarities that these two species share. First and foremost, both of these magical beings have powerful abilities to perform magic. And secondly, their appearances aren't all that different. They are both smaller than humans with skin tones that are on the lighter side--at least, that's true of the goblins and elves we met throughout the series. Of course, every creature's population will have varying appearances from individual to individual. However, for the most part, many of the goblins and house elves that we are introduced to throughout Harry Potter--and even Fantastic Beasts for that matter--have long, hooked noses and larger, pointed ears.Alright, now that that's out of the way, let's get to the details that truly mark each of these magical creatures as unique...Socials: https://linktr.ee/hptheory See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

Why Percy HATED the Weasleys - Harry Potter Explained

Why Percy HATED the Weasleys - Harry Potter Explained

Welcome to Harry Potter Theory. Today, we'll be taking a look at the how and why of Percy Weasley's estrangement from his family. To start with, Percy was not the--easiest--wizard to get along with. He was an incredibly ambitious, somewhat pompous young man, who had great admiration for authority. Percy was also incredibly dedicated to rising above his family's modest station in life, pursuing recognition and status through powerful employment. This, of course, includes his interests in becoming a prefect, Hogwarts' Head Boy in his final year at school, and an employee at the Ministry of Magic. As the third chi*ld of Arthur and Molly Weasley, Percy was very much a middle chi*ld--younger than both Bill and Charlie, and older than Fred, George, Ron and Ginny. Despite his great ambitions in life, he was--sadly for him--somewhat forgettable amidst all the chaos and vibrancy that filled the Weasley home. And while all that sensibly may have contributed to Percy feeling a little "left out" among his fellow family members, it certainly doesn't explain why he fell out with them completely. Why Didn't Grindelwald Create Horcruxes? - Harry Potter Theory

Why Didn't Grindelwald Create Horcruxes? - Harry Potter Theory

Welcome to Harry Potter Theory. Today we're discussing Gellert Grindelwald, and why he never chose to pursue immortality via Horcruxes. In Harry Potter, Horcruxes are one of Lord Voldemort's deadliest weapons- objects that anchor his soul to the mortal realm and prevent him from dying. The creation of a Horcrux requires an act of murder, as it involves tearing the soul apart, and it is considered one of the darkest forms of magic. But Gellert Grindelwald, the man who terrorized the wizarding world BEFORE Voldemort, never seemed to have been interested in them. Why is that? Well, I've got a few theories.Socials: https://linktr.ee/hptheory See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
