How the landscape nourishes us.

In this episode I’m delighted to be joined by Nicky Turvey where we discuss how our landscape is so pivotal in our lives and the meaning it can have on our lives. We also explore climate change and capitalism and how these concepts are at odds with each other. Within this episode we also explore Buddhism and what it means to live a truly rich and enriched life. By way of introduction to Nicky, she was born in a small village in Bedfordshire where all her immediate family relatives lived within 1 mile of each other, but left at 7 to relocate to west Devon due to her fathers work commitments. She continued to live in west Devon and Cornwall, always only 5 miles or less from the coastline for the next 21 years of life, until she had to move away due to economic opportunity only being available back in the South East. Nicky lived in Hertfordshire for 5 years and held a success career position in local government, but felt an incessant pull for the sea, and relocated to Southampton to work as the sustainability manager at the University of Southampton. Being nearer the coast she learnt to sail but the magnetic pull kept drawing her back to West Devon. She then decided to leave the hamster wheel and connect with nature and her roots. She left a prestigious career in order to relocate ‘home’ at 34 having been away for 6.5 years. She now works at an Arts University as the Sustainability Officer and has more time connecting with what she loves spending time in nature, going on long hiking trips and practicing Buddhism.
