Pensions with a purpose, a guide to environmental, social and governance (ESG) investing.

In this episode I was absolutely delighted to be joined by Charlotte from pensions for purpose. We discuss the super important subject that is ESG, what does this mean and how can we move towards more impact investing. We also give practical tips for investors (both institutional but more retail) and consider why it’s taken so much time to even get the finance industry to take this seriously as it’s not been cost factored into our models. The current Coronavirus pandemic has provided us with an opportunity to take stock, to think about the interconnectedness of the global community and economy, and the impact we have on one another’s lives and the environment. We are recognising in real time the value of the environment, society and good decision making (or governance) as well as the failure of bad decision making, of not valuing the environment and different groups in society. The current situation has provided some indicators on what the future may look like and what sacrifices we need to make in order to create a sustainable world. We have seen satellite images showing reduced air pollution across the world as a result of lockdowns and with a potential long-term shift to working from home. We have also seen a shift in emphasis on key workers and key services which benefit society. We have, overnight, changed the role of the state and its reach, recognising people’s value based on contribution, not profit. Every person is playing their part and every component in the chain needs to work to make this possible. I hope you find this topic on personal finance helpful. Sending you peace, love and light. ❤️🙏
