Preparing your farm for bushfire season

In September 2023, the Bureau of Meteorology declared an El Niño climate pattern for Australia. This is linked with an increased risk of drought, heatwaves and bushfires – and unfortunately, we have already seen the bushfire season arrive in southeastern parts of the country.

In this episode, Dairy Australia National Animal Health and Fertility Lead, Zoe Vogels, speaks with Craig Wood, a veterinarian in Victoria’s Terang/Mortlake region and CFA Deputy Group Officer (Camperdown Group), about how dairy farmers can prepare for bushfires. This includes how to keep your young stock and cows safe, how to keep staff safe and informed, take into consideration power and water supply, and the importance of planning ahead.
