At 5:24 am on Sunday, May 22, 2016, a 9-9-9 operator responded to a call from someone reporting a person who wasn’t breathing. The caller told the 9-9-9 operator that her daughter’s partner had collapsed. When emergency medical personnel reached the home, they found Lyndsey Vaux unresponsive and not breathing. Lyndsey Vaux died not long after the 9-9-9 call. Investigators could have never been prepared for the information they would learn about the events leading up to Lyndsey’s death. Lyndsey’s story involves domestic violence and coercive control in their most extreme forms. Listener discretion is strongly advised. A series of three calls came into Walker County 9-1-1 the afternoon of October 3, 2016. The caller said a man shot himself and they needed an ambulance. A woman can be heard wailing and screaming in the background …she’s hysterical. An officer arrives on scene shortly after the third call was finished, and an investigation ensued. However, according to the victim’s family, a bungled investigation, misinformation in official reports, lying witnesses and the fact that all witnesses, and the victim, were drug users …led to an incorrect determination of the manner of death.
