Dave - Rock Star Life, Psilocybin and AA Alternatives

Dave - Rock Star Life, Psilocybin and AA Alternatives

“If AA works for let’s say 10% of people and that’s as high as any support group goes. Let's say no one does better than that. If we have AA getting 10% and another method helping 10% and another getting 5%, won’t that help more people?

There was no straight line to an alcohol free life for Dave. A musician from an early age, he was ALL in on the rock star lifestyle but realized in his early 20s he couldn't maintain that. He went to rehab and was alcohol free for 20 years until he wasn’t.

You would think it would have been a rager but in reality it was a couple beers, sobered up to drive home and woke up feeling great. The absolute worst thing that could have happened. He convinced himself he no longer had a problem and within weeks he had escalated back to his 20s drinking and drug days and eventually back to rehab.

In todays episode we discuss,

How he is grateful that his drinking was off the rails and damaging as he couldn't BS others that it was okay unlike his father who slowly drank himself to death.

How even if AA worked for 25% of people (which there are no statistics on) there are still 75% out there who are looking for other solutions to find freedom and the importance of finding your own path to freedom from booze (or whatever else is disrupting your life).

And one of my favorite topics, how important it is to define our “drinking problem” and solution for what serves the person we want to be and how the best time to evaluate the role of booze in your life is actually before it becomes a problem.

About Sober•ish Uprising

At Sober•ish Uprising we find freedom from alcohol on our own terms. Founded by Holly Krivokapich, a former heavy drinker who started a sober•ish uprising of her own and everything changed, we know it's not about saying no to the drink but saying yes to you. Holly works with 40ish, personal development junkies who are ready to put their sober curiosity into action, making it their next power move, and doing so with all the fun and none of the dread. Through our podcast, 1:1 coaching and her signature program The Sober•ish Experiment, we support those to create and live their own sober•ish journey.
