According to the Dallas Morning News, approximately 300 people move to Dallas every day. So why is everyone moving to Dallas? That’s a lot of people, but it makes sense. Dallas has a lot to offer. Here are a few of the reasons why so many people are moving to Dallas.

1. Jobs

Let’s be honest, most people live somewhere because of job opportunities and Dallas has plenty of them. Toyota, McKesson, and the PGA are just a few of the companies that have relocated their corporate headquarters to the Dallas metro area and brought all of those jobs with them. Not only are there many companies, but the companies are also in a variety of industries. Unlike other cities that seem to primarily only have jobs in certain fields such as oil & gas or tech, Dallas has a variety of jobs in a variety of industries.

2. No State Income Tax

One great thing about living in Texas is that there is no income tax. Now, you make up for it in property tax, but that’s beside the point. No income tax actually lets you keep more of your income and makes living in Dallas more affordable. Seriously, who likes paying taxes?

3. Cost of Living That brings us to the overall lower cost of living. Now, Dallas has gotten significantly more expensive over the years but it is still less than other major US cities. Currently, housing cost in Dallas is about 93% of the median housing cost in the US. That’s not bad. The average home in Dallas is $214K, compared to $231K for the overall US. Transportation will cost you a bit more than other cities due to the increasing sprawl and of course, the lower-cost housing is further from the city center. The DART (Dallas Area Rapid Transit) is constantly expanding and getting better. Not interested in buying a house right now? Dallas still has affordable rent. According to Rent Café, the average 850 square foot apartment will cost you $1,250. This compares to $1,439 in Austin, $1,702 in Miami or $4,200 in Manhattan.

4. Sports If you like professional sports, then Dallas is the place to be. Between the Mavericks for basketball, the Stars for hockey, the Cowboys for football, and FC Dallas for soccer, Dallas has pretty much everything you could want. If you are more into college sports, in addition to having SMU and TCU in the metroplex, you will not have a shortage of finding a sports bar to watch teams from UT, Texas A&M, and OU. Dallas is also close to the Texas Motor Speedway if you are into that sort of thing.

5. Restaurants If you consider yourself a foodie or just like to eat, Dallas is the city for you. Dallas actually has more restaurants per capita than New York City. Now, part of what inflates that number is being home to the culinary empire Brinker which brings us fine dining options like Chili’s and On the Border. However, Dallas is more than just chain restaurants. Dallas has a variety of cuisines including some pretty amazing Tex-Mex. No matter what type of food you like, you are sure to find several options in Dallas.
