Detroit Slips and Griffins Insights ft. Amadeus Lombardi and Dan Watson - Jan. 20th, 2025

Between the Red Wings and Lions, it was a tough weekend for Detroit...

Tune in as we open this post-Grand Rapids Griffins event episode by discussing Todd McLellan's squad's unlikely win over Bobrovsky and the Florida Panthers, including a red-hot power play led by Berggren, Dylan Larkin, and Patrick Kane, Marco Kasper, Alex DeBrincat, and Lucas Raymond contributing, Cam Talbot's unreal performance, & more (3:55). We then recap the Red Wings' two losses to the Vasilevskiy and the Tampa Bay Lightning as well as Oettinger and the Dallas Stars, highlighted by poor defense (despite Moritz Seider and Simon Edvinsson's best efforts) and a tough back-to-back, as well as discuss what this team needs to do ahead of the Phildelphia Flyers game to convince Steve Yzerman that this team can make an NHL playoff push (8:40).

We then cut to our recent live recording of the Winged Wheel Podcast with the Grand Rapids Griffins at Van Andel Arena, where we're joined by Amadeus Lombardi to discuss his career path, being drafted to Hockeytown, idolizing Fedorov, Kane, and Bure, playing with Nate Danielson, Sebastian Cossa, & other Griffins, & more (18:40). We're then joined by Dan Watson to discuss his time coaching the Griffins, what he's seen in progression from current & graduated players, his take on Derek Lalonde being replaced by McLellan, & plenty more (46:10).

Next, we give our thoughts on the Detroit Red Wings Stadium Series jersey (including the fun Al the Octopus detail) (1:02:10) before jumping into NHL news, including Alex Nedeljkovic's goalie goal, Simon Nemec possibly wanting a trade, the McDavid - Garland fiasco, J.T. Miller's almost-trade to the New York Rangers, & more (1:07:15) before we take your questions and comments in our Overtime segment (1:16:15) - enjoy!
