Tips and tricks for increasing physical activity with Dr Mariana Wingood

Staying physically active is not only important for people with osteoarthritis, but all adults. Participating in physical activity can help improve mobility, physical conditioning and reduce the risk of falls. However, despite the numerous health benefits of staying physically active, many older adults do not meet the recommended guidelines. We know it is often hard staying active so wanted to unpack that and give some tips and tricks for staying active. In this week’s episode of Joint Action, we are joined by Mariana Wingood to discuss how we can increase our levels of physical activity.

Mariana is a physiotherapist who received her Doctorate in Physical Therapy from SUNY Upstate Medical University in 2012. In 2014, she became a Certified Exercise Expert of Aging Adults, in 2015 a Geriatric Certified Specialist, and in 2021, she completed her PhD in Interprofessional Health Sciences and her Masters in Public Health. Mariana’s research interests are related to physical activity and aging, with a focus on addressing physical activity prescription barriers identified by outpatient physical therapists treating individuals 50 years and older.
