Turning the Tables -- What's on Larry's Mind?

Turning the Tables -- What's on Larry's Mind?

We turn the tables on today's episode, and have Professor Kotlikoff sit in the guest seat. He is interviewed by good friend and terrific economist, George Hoguet. George has held hugely important positions in government, international institutions, and private finance. Together they get into the big policy issues we all care about.

You may or may not know, Professor Kotlikoff ran as a write-in candidate for President in 2016 with the objective to lay out what economists would do were they in charge of economic policy. Check out his platform for fixing policy, (which he turned into a book, called You're Hired!) is posted at kotlikoff.net.

Topics discussed in this episode:

  • Congress's lack of basic education in economics
  • How to fix our outrageously expensive and criminally inefficient healthcare system
  • How to fix our completely bankrupt Social Security system
  • How to fix our tax-benefit system whose main accomplishment is locking the poor into poverty
  • Problems with our healthcare system that spends almost twice the share of GDP as other developed countries and delivers third-rate healthcare outcomes.
