We discuss Autonomous Disaster Relief in the context of Hurricane Florence, with reference to Hurricane Sandy (2012) and Maria (2017), and a breakdown of the colonial-capitalist exploitation of Puerto Rico. We explore a core topic of these news round-ups: Trump Resistance. We criticize the ruling class appropriation of resistance, and take a critical but open-minded look at the growth of social-democracy on the left in USA, with detailed reference to the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) and the candidates they've supported, like Alexandra Ocasio-Cortez in New York City. We highlight ongoing examples of autonomous, grassroots resistance, including the Prison Strike, anti-fascist organizing, Occupy ICE actions, various teachers strikes, Indigenous Resistance to pipelines, and more. We get an update about an Occupy ICE comrade from San Antonio, Mapache, who stood up to neo-Nazi violence, as well as to Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), but was recently deported to Mexico after a months long detention. We muse about the continued relevance of, and increasing interest in, anarchist ideas and practice. This includes the inside scoop on the recent Teen Vogue article on anarchism (written by our guest Kim Kelly). We finish up with a discussion about the necessity and importance of left-wing anarchist media in this current political moment.
