Central Crossover: Can the Dallas Stars catch the Jets? Nashville Fire Sale and Avs Inconsistency

On today's episode of Locked On Stars, Joey proves and explains how the Dallas Stars have been outscoring their problems over the last month. With injuries to Jake Oettinger and Miro Heiskanen the already glaring problem of the Stars has been exposed in certain games. However, the offense led by Matt Duchene and Jason Robertson has kept the team a float. Joey highlights how the Stars lead the NHL in Goals Per Game and Goals For since Dec. 15. They are 16th in Goals Against and are having to score three or four goals most nights to win hockey games. It's not a bad thing that the depth of Dallas such as Mason Marchment and Tyler Seguin are having great seasons, but the Stars have to improve in their own end to reach their ultimate goal at the end of the season. The next segment is a preview of tonight's game with the Los Angelas Kings who had been winless in eight straight heading into yesterdays game. Cam Talbot who's having a resurgence for the Kings will be in net looking to end a losing streak of himself. It will be important that the Stars weather the storm in the first 10 minutes of the game in what should be a great test against a quality team in the Western Conference. The final segment is the return of Shooting Star! For tonight's game Joey goes with Thomas Harley. Jake Oettinger returned from injury last Friday for the Dallas Stars and the next night, backup goalie Scott Wedgewood went down with an injury. Another player down in a key position that has not played up to standard this season. Today's episode of Locked On Stars begins with the discussion of Wedgewood's injury and how that effects the way Dallas may have to use Otter moving forward. Without Oettinger for a month, Wedgewood was one of the busiest goalies in the NHL and held the Stars in a division race. Now the Stars have to decide how much they want to use Otter who just returned from an injury that him out for almost a month. With the All-Star break right around the corner, the next seven games leave valuable points up for grabs. The break allows the Stars to reset and hopefully return fully healthy and ready for a playoff push. Joey looks ahead at the final seven games before the break and the expectations with their number one net-minder back. The defense which has been the core issue all season is holding on without Miro Heiskanen and they have to find a way to win games until he returns or they get help externally. The final segment takes a look at the Central Divison as the Stars make a push for the top seed. Dallas, Colorado and Winnipeg are top 10 in points in the NHL, and the Stars are only five points out of first place. Even during a stretch of not so good play and injuries in key spots, the Stars are right in the mix. The Dallas Stars hit the halfway point of the season tonight against the Nashville Predators as Jason Robertson looks for his fourth straight game with a goal. On today's episode of Locked On Stars, Joey believes Robertson is on the verge of huge surge offensively. Robo has 17 points in last 14 games, with just 15 goals this season it's a matter of time before he hits his stride. His trip completed by Roope Hintz and Joe Pavelski are playing some of their best hockey recently and we're starting to see some of those vintage Robertson plays we've been accustomed too in his young career. With his goal on Wednesday, he now has 119 goals in 250 career games, Joey discussed where that ranks above U.S born scorers and more. The Stars play a back to back beginning with Nashville tonight and on the road in Chicago on Saturday. We look back at the crucial 10 game stretch the Stars began just before the new year. With Connor Bedard injured, the Stars have a great chance of taking all four points this weekend. Also, it looks like Jake Oettinger is returning! The Dallas Stars had a parade against the Minnesota Wild again this week taking down their rival 7-2 last night! On today's episode of Locked On Stars, Joey celebrates a season series in which the Stars outscored the Wild 19-5 in three games. Joe Pavelski scored the first goal on Jesper Wallstedt who made his NHL debut and it was on from there. Mason Marchment had another multi-point night, Tyler Seguin scored his 16 goal of the season and has 14 points in his last 14 games. Head Coach Pete DeBoer put on a coaching clinic against the Wild this season. Scott Wedgewood had a rather easy night in net only making 10 saves in the first two periods and picked up his 12 win of the season. After not winning a game in the new year heading into this week, these two wins against albeit a Wild team without their full roster, were key to getting the Stars back on track. Someone who has been on track this season is Pavelski. With his 465th career goal last night, he inches his was closer to the five best U.S born scorers in the NHL. Joey highlights his accomplishments and how important he has been to Dallas since joining the Stars. If you think back, letting Matt Zuccarello go to Minnesota was the only reason the Stars had the oppurtunity to get Pavelski. It sure worked out for both teams. To wrap up the episode, Joey looks ahead the upcoming schedule and how the Stars can track down Winnipeg and Colorado in the standing. The Dallas Stars young defensemen Thomas Harley has been a huge relief for the backend this season. With Miro Heiskanen going down a few games ago, the defense is in a venerable state. However, Harley is playing some of his best hockey of the season and Joey tells you why on today's episode of Locked On Stars. Pete DeBoer is utilizing at 5 on 5 since the absence of Miro, he leads the team with just under 59 minutes of time on ice at even strength. Plus the Stars have a 75.3 % xG share when he's on the ice, highest on the team. He has made such an impact and with Miro out, it allows him to establish himself as the player that deserves just as much as time as Heiskanen is getting. Next, the Stars have the tough task of trying to beat a team again after doing so a few nights before. The Minnesota Wild are in Dallas tonight looking for revenge. The Wild could start their AHL call up and first round pick Jesper Wallstedt who has been awaiting his first career NHL start. With the Wild down a lot of bodies they may look for a spark like the Stars did with Matt Murray who of course shutout the Wild on Monday night. To finish the show, Joey discusses the possibility of Jake Oettinger returning, with Matt Murray being loaned to the AHL yesterday, that could mean Otter is back or they are trying to save cap space once again.
